According to TikTok’s global year-end music report, Masked Wolf’s “Astronaut In The Ocean” was the platform’s number-one track of 2021. Måneskin’s “Beggin’,” Popp Hunna’s “Adderall (Corvette Corvette),” ElyOtto’s “SugarCrash!” and The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “STAY” rounded out the top five.
TikTok’s global top five songs of 2021
- Masked Wolf — “Astronaut In The Ocean.” TikTok named the track its global number one and described it as a sleeper success. The song was originally released in 2019, rather than first appearing in 2021. TikTok’s global report and Australia report provide that context.
- Måneskin — “Beggin’.” The Italian band’s cover of the Four Seasons’ 1967 song took second place globally. TikTok also ranked it first in its UK Alternative category.
- Popp Hunna — “Adderall (Corvette Corvette).” TikTok linked the song’s popularity to a dance challenge.
- ElyOtto — “SugarCrash!” TikTok described the Canadian track as hyperpop.
- The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber — “STAY.” TikTok said the track was previewed on the platform before its release.
The order above is TikTok’s global year-end ranking, not a chart of every song released or streamed in 2021. The list brings together multiple genres and release histories, including hip-hop, rock and hyperpop, as well as songs that predate the year.
What TikTok’s figures measure
TikTok Australia reported that “Astronaut In The Ocean” soundtracked 17 million TikTok videos in 2021 and that “STAY” was used in nearly 9 million videos. The same report said approximately 430 songs surpassed one billion video views as TikTok sounds, and over 175 songs that trended on TikTok charted on the US Billboard Hot 100. These are company-published platform figures: video creations and video views are different measures, and neither figure represents unique listeners or music streams.
Why regional lists differ
TikTok also published country and genre lists, which answer different questions from the global top five. In the UK report, hip-hop and rap remained the most popular genre, followed by pop and dance. Tion Wayne and Russ Millions’ “Body” led the UK Rap category, while “Beggin’” led UK Alternative. Those category rankings should not be substituted for the global overall order. See TikTok’s UK report for the regional results.

How to read the ranking
TikTok labels the list its top global tracks for 2021, but its report does not state a full methodology, a precise measurement window or a formula for translating the order into sales, streams or unique listeners. The ranking is therefore best understood as TikTok’s own year-end list, not an independent industry chart or a definitive measure of music popularity beyond the platform.
