The fourth installment is now listed for theatrical release on May 19, 2028, though that date could change. The new film’s official title and plot have not been announced in the sources available here.
What Fraser meant by “waiting 20 years”
In a November 21, 2025 interview reported by Variety, Fraser described a long wait for a call to make the Mummy movie he wanted. “But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
That “20 years” is Fraser’s own description of the wait, not a separately verified production timeline. He was speaking about the film he hoped to make, rather than announcing that production had been underway for two decades.
When is The Mummy 4 coming out?
Universal’s upcoming-movies page currently lists The Mummy Franchise for theatrical release on May 19, 2028. The listing does not provide an official title for the new film, and release schedules can change. Variety’s November 2025 report said no date had been announced at that time; Universal’s current listing is newer.

Who is expected to return?
Variety reported that Fraser and Rachel Weisz would headline the developing sequel, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing. The Independent later reported that Fraser had confirmed John Hannah’s return. These reports do not establish a complete final cast list.
The new film’s official title and plot are not established by these reports. On February 11, 2026, The Independent reported that the film had not yet received an official title. No plot synopsis is provided in the cited announcements.

How the new film follows Fraser’s Mummy movies
The Fraser-led series began with The Mummy (1999), followed by The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). The third film moved the story to China. Fraser told Variety that the setting was connected to NBC holding Olympic broadcast rights that year, and said he was proud of the result as a standalone movie: “I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie.”
For a catch-up, those three films are the relevant Fraser-era entries. Variety describes the 2017 Tom Cruise-led The Mummy as a reboot; it is distinct from the earlier Fraser films and should not be treated as part of their story arc based on the announcements cited here.
