The Louvre’s Nintendo 3DS audio-guide service was reported to have ended in September 2025. The museum announced a new system, but its current visitor information does not identify the replacement’s device, software or supplier. Visitors can still rent an audio guide from the Louvre; its current listing describes the content and price, not the technology behind it.
When did the Louvre stop using Nintendo 3DS guides?
Nintendo Everything reported on May 2, 2025, that the Louvre’s 3DS audio-guide service was due to end in September 2025, citing a notice on the museum’s website. Phandroid reported on September 3, 2025, that the change was taking place and that a new system had been announced. Neither report identifies the successor’s technology or supplier. The Louvre’s current visitor amenities page lists an audio-guide rental but does not say whether it uses a dedicated device, a phone app or another platform. It therefore confirms a present audio-guide offering, not the identity of the replacement for the 3DS system.
What could the old 3DS guide do?
Nintendo Everything described the former guide as more than an audio player. According to its May 2025 report, visitors could simulate a route through the museum, view 3D models and high-resolution images of selected works, and listen to more than 30 hours of audio commentary. The software was also released as a standalone title. These are reported features of the retired guide, not evidence that they are available in the current service.

What audio guide can visitors use now?
The Louvre currently describes an audio guide covering more than 150 masterpieces, with over 200 commentaries about rooms, the collection’s history and periods in art history. Its listed rental price is €6, and the museum says visitors can book in advance through its online ticketing service. The page’s information was accessed October 8, 2026, and the museum may change its offerings or prices.
The museum lists the guide in nine languages: “French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.” The quotation and language list are from the Louvre’s official visitor amenities page.

Can visitors still get a Louvre guidebook?
Yes. The Louvre says its shops stock guides, books and art books. A printed guidebook can be a useful companion or keepsake, but it is a separate product category—not a replacement for the retired electronic 3DS system. Shop details are on the museum’s visitor amenities page.
