The Leadlight is a neighbourhood pub at 165 Beaufort Street, Northbridge, on the former Ruinbar site. Ruinbar closed for renovations before reopening as The Leadlight in December 2024; the biggest change was a larger, greener beer garden with several outdoor areas and a fireplace.
What happened to Ruinbar?
The former Ruinbar closed for renovations and returned under a new name: The Leadlight. The West Australian reported on the planned change in October 2024, describing plans for a more comfortable interior, a larger garden, a commercial kitchen and a fuller pub offer while retaining pizza. Broadsheet later reported that The Leadlight reopened in December 2024. Its opening story was published on 8 January 2025 and updated on 31 January; PerthNow published its coverage on 12 January 2025. The venue therefore opened in late 2024, not for the first time in 2025. The West Australian · Broadsheet · PerthNow
What is The Leadlight?
It is a renovated pub operated by brothers Brian and Conor Buckley, who are also associated with Picabar and Percy Flint. The name refers to leadlights made in the row of former shops, according to Brian Buckley. The pub’s opening concept paired familiar pub food with Italian-American-influenced bistro dishes, pizza and panuzzi, alongside local beers and wines from local producers. What changed at 165 Beaufort Street?
The expanded outdoor area is the most notable change. Opening coverage describes multiple garden areas, greenery and an outdoor fireplace, together with a refreshed interior. Buckley called the garden “the superstar” in Broadsheet’s opening coverage. The pre-reopening plans also included a commercial kitchen, supporting a broader pub menu alongside the site’s existing pizza identity. Broadsheet · Perth venue coverage · The West Australian
