Among the 16 selected films in Box Office Watch’s Tyler Perry filmography, Gone Girl ranks first by reported worldwide theatrical gross, at $367.1 million, followed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows at $245.3 million. The list includes films Perry acted in or directed—not just Madea movies or films he directed. Figures below are rounded as displayed by Box Office Watch; blank worldwide entries are not treated as zero.
Tyler Perry movies ranked by reported worldwide gross
This ranking follows Box Office Watch’s worldwide-gross column for its selected 16-film Perry filmography spanning 2005–2021. It is a source-scoped list, not a complete ranking of every Perry credit or every Madea production. The amounts are rounded as displayed by that source.

Note: The table above preserves the source’s ordering only where the listed worldwide amounts support it; several values in the source summary are not stated for all remaining films, and exact lower-rank ordering cannot be reliably reconstructed from the supplied figures. The listed figures for Vice, Alex Cross and For Colored Girls should not be taken as sourced ranking data here.
Why the top two are not Madea films
The two highest reported totals are for films in which Perry appears in ensemble casts: Gone Girl and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. That is why “Tyler Perry movies” needs a clear scope. The Box Office Watch page includes selected credited films, rather than limiting the list to movies he directed or to the Madea franchise.

The highest-grossing Madea entry in this list
A Madea Family Funeral is the largest Madea title in Box Office Watch’s worldwide ranking, at about $74.8 million. The Numbers lists its worldwide theatrical gross as $74,821,047. The Numbers’ franchise table also reports $73,206,343 for Boo! A Madea Halloween, $66,950,887 for Madea’s Witness Protection and $63,320,521 for Madea’s Family Reunion. Differences in rounding and database totals are one reason to identify the source instead of implying greater precision than the displayed figures support. The Numbers’ Madea franchise history and its A Madea Family Funeral page provide the title-level comparisons.
Why Madea Goes to Jail is not ranked by worldwide gross here
Box Office Watch lists $90.5 million in domestic gross for Madea Goes to Jail but leaves its worldwide-gross field blank. The Numbers reports $90,508,336 as both domestic and worldwide gross and shows a 100% domestic share. That is a domestic-only total in its data, not a comparable international-plus-domestic result like the worldwide figures above. It would rank above the listed Madea titles if presented as a domestic-gross comparison, but inserting it into this worldwide ranking without that qualification would mix metrics. See The Numbers’ title page.

Theatrical totals do not cover every Madea release
Box-office rankings include theatrical receipts, so they do not measure every way a franchise title reached viewers. Guinness World Records describes a 13-film Madea franchise, while its record total counts 11 films released in cinemas through 2022. The entry notes that Madea’s Tough Love premiered on DVD and A Madea Homecoming debuted on Netflix. The Numbers’ franchise page shows zero theatrical amounts for those titles; that indicates the absence of a theatrical total in the table, not that the films earned nothing overall.
Guinness World Records states that the Madea Cinematic Universe had taken $291,262,495 (£225,664,355) from 11 films as of March 24, 2025, according to The Numbers. This is a franchise record figure, not the combined gross of every Tyler Perry movie. The record is described at Guinness World Records.

What box-office gross does—and does not—tell you
A worldwide gross is ticket revenue reported across markets, not the amount a studio or filmmaker keeps as profit. It does not subtract production costs, marketing, distribution expenses or cinema shares. Box Office Watch cautions that comparing gross with production budgets is not a profit calculation because marketing costs are omitted. A ranking is useful for comparing reported theatrical reach; it cannot establish which film was most profitable.
