Matt and Jeff Hardy’s September 2025 interview looked ahead to what TNA billed as their final match with Team 3D. The Hardys had just reclaimed the TNA World Tag Team Championship at Slammiversary; by the time Bound For Glory took place on October 12, the match had grown into a double-title Tables Match. A report published the next day said the Hardys won, retained both championships, and Team 3D retired in the ring.
How the final-match challenge took shape
In an interview with The Sportster, syndicated by Yardbarker and credited to Adam Barnard, Matt and Jeff Hardy reflected on their TNA return, their Slammiversary title win, and the announced encounter with Team 3D. The feature, updated September 30, 2025, said the Hardys had returned to TNA in April 2024 and won their third TNA tag team championship reign that October. Read the interview.
At Slammiversary 2025, the Hardys regained the TNA World Tag Team Championship in a four-way ladder match, according to both the interview and TNA’s official announcement. That announcement says Bully Ray then challenged the champions on behalf of Team 3D, setting up the match for Bound For Glory.
Matt described the ladder match as a test of whether the brothers were still performing at their best. “We got screwed out of the titles by the Nemeths, but we started looking in the mirror,” he said, before recalling the question they asked themselves: “Hey, are we really at the top of our game? Because if we’re not, maybe it’s time for us to step out.”

Why the rivalry mattered to the Hardys
Jeff Hardy said the Team 3D challenge caught him off guard: “For him to challenge us to a final match was just mind-blowing.” Matt added that Bully Ray left after the in-ring challenge, which helped the moment feel authentic to the brothers.
For Matt, the importance of the match went beyond the titles. “I think the thing I am most looking forward to is getting through this match and exceeding expectations and then just sharing a moment at the end, celebrating the fact that we have had a rivalry that has gone over a quarter of a century.” That is Matt’s characterization of the rivalry, rather than a measured career statistic.

The brothers connected the moment to their shared history with Team 3D and Edge & Christian, including the TLC-era matches that shaped their careers. Jeff recalled one detail from the Slammiversary ladder match: “To be a part of this thing, I’ve been thinking about that cable ladder since TLC 2. Thank you, Tommy Dreamer and TNA, for bringing that to life for me.”

The interview was also candid about the physical limits of a match billed around tables. Jeff asked fans not to expect every high-risk spectacle associated with the teams’ past. “I know that me and Devon aren’t going to hang from anything in the match,” he said. “I know that’s not going to happen. But yeah, just to feel the emotion when it’s all over is going to be pretty powerful.”

How the match changed before Bound For Glory
TNA’s August 21 advance announcement initially named the TNA World Tag Team Championship as the prize. After the Hardys also became NXT Tag Team Champions, TNA announced that both the TNA and NXT tag team titles would be at stake. The final advertised format was a Tables Match at Bound For Glory on October 12, 2025, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. The announcement established the planned format and stakes, not the result.

Bound For Glory took place on October 12, 2025. In a report published October 13, SEScoops said the Hardys defeated Team 3D in the Tables Match and retained the TNA and NXT tag team championships. The report also said Team 3D took off their boots and announced their retirement in the ring. Those are post-event details reported by SEScoops, distinct from the pre-match interview and TNA’s advance announcement.

Matt praised the people working in TNA in the interview, saying: “The roster that is currently in TNA, they’re selfless. Everyone’s working for the greater good. It’s the best roster.
