Netflix confirmed the follow-up on March 12, 2026, and named original directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans as its returning directors. Netflix has not announced a release date, plot, or returning cast.
What Netflix confirmed about the sequel
Netflix described the sequel as the first project under Kang and Appelhans’s exclusive, multiyear writing and directing partnership across animation. The announcement confirms the film is moving forward and that both directors are returning; it does not provide a production timetable or further creative details. Netflix’s March 12, 2026 announcement is the source for those details.
Kang said, “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.” Appelhans said the team was excited to “write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve” and continue exploring how music, animation, and story can come together. Both statements were quoted by Netflix in its announcement.
When will KPop Demon Hunters 2 come out?
Netflix has not announced a release date in its sequel announcement. It also has not shared a synopsis or confirmed which actors or other members of the original cast will return. A specific year or plot detail should therefore be treated as speculation unless Netflix announces it.

Why Netflix says the sequel is happening
Netflix reported more than 500 million views for KPop Demon Hunters since its June 2025 debut, as of its March 2026 sequel announcement. That is Netflix’s platform-reported view count, not a count of unique viewers. In October 2025, Netflix had reported an earlier figure of more than 325 million global views over 91 days; the two figures cover different time windows and should not be treated as directly comparable snapshots of the same period. Netflix’s October 2025 announcement gave the earlier figure.
The film’s reach extended beyond that view-count measure. In its June 18, 2026 anniversary feature, Netflix reported that the picture book For the Fans (KPop Demon Hunters) had sold more than 1.6 million copies across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Spain, and spent 18 weeks on The New York Times Picture Book Bestseller list. Netflix also reported that Bunjang saw a 78% increase in cross-border purchases of K-pop consumer products since the film debuted; that figure is specific to the marketplace and was reported by Bunjang through Netflix.

- Set of 3 Huntr/x includes Rumi, Mira and Zoey from KPop Demon Hunters first series vinyl figures
- Each individual comes with original packaging and will be bundled with a premium box protector
Other figures in Netflix’s June 2026 feature measure different kinds of activity: 11.5 million hours of combined play time for Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters Roblox experience, and 4.6 billion social impressions, including 2.3 billion for the “Golden” Official Lyric Video on YouTube. These are Netflix-reported anniversary metrics, not interchangeable measures of film viewership.
What the sequel could continue
The original film follows HUNTR/X—K-pop stars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who secretly protect their fans from demons. Their rival boy band, Saja Boys, are demons in disguise. That premise gives the sequel a returning fictional world, but Netflix has not said which characters will appear or what the next story will involve. Netflix’s title guide describes the original film and its story.

At the 2026 Academy Awards, KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature, and “Golden” won Best Original Song. Netflix’s June 2026 anniversary feature reported both awards. Netflix has announced licensing partnerships and products connected to the original film, but announcements do not establish current stock or prices. In October 2025, Netflix described planned Mattel products including dolls, action figures, accessories, collectibles, and playsets, including a HUNTR/X doll three-pack. Its announced Hasbro range included plush, youth electronics, role-play, and games; the first named product was MONOPOLY Deal: KPop Demon Hunters. Netflix said Amazon, Target, and Walmart were preorder retailers for that game at the time of its October 2025 announcement.
