Coppola’s later re-edit, The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, is still the conclusion of Part III—not a new installment.
Was The Godfather Part IV ever made?
No. Paramount’s official pages describe the released films as a trilogy: The Godfather, The Godfather Part II and The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Paramount’s The Godfather 50th Trilogy collection likewise contains those three films. No fourth film was announced in the public statements cited here.

What did Coppola and Paramount say about a sequel?
In comments reported in December 2020, Coppola described another installment as a possibility, not a project in production. He was quoted as saying, “There may well be a ‘Godfather IV’ and V and VI. I don’t know.” The uncertainty is central: this was speculation about what might happen, not confirmation that a screenplay, cast or production schedule existed. (The Indian Express, December 2020.)
Paramount’s position, as reproduced in the same report, was that “there are no imminent plans for another film in the Godfather saga,” while leaving open the possibility “if the right story emerges.” That statement reflected the studio’s position at the time; it was not a greenlight or a current production update.

Why Coda is not Part IV
The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is Coppola’s revised edit and restoration of the third film. Paramount calls it the definitive new edit of the trilogy’s final film on its official film page. A new cut of Part III does not add a fourth chapter to the series.

No. The Associated Press reported on May 13, 2026, that the Puzo estate authorized Connie, a novel by Adriana Trigiani planned for fall 2027. AP also reported that Paramount holds the film rights. The book is a separate literary project; it is not a fourth movie or evidence that one is in development. (Associated Press, May 13, 2026.)

The distinction reflects separate publishing and film-rights paths. AP recounts the earlier dispute between Paramount and the Puzo estate over The Family Corleone; the federal court opinion in Paramount Pictures Corporation v. Puzo provides legal context for that dispute. Neither source documents a current Part IV production.
