The Four Seasons shares The White Lotus’s most obvious hook: a group of people travel together, and the relationships they bring along begin to fray. But the Netflix series is a warmer, more relationship-focused comedy-drama—not a confirmed match for The White Lotus’s satire.
Why The Four Seasons invites a White Lotus comparison
Both shows use time away from home to put an ensemble under pressure. In The Four Seasons, three long-standing couples take a vacation for each season of the year. The trips give the group a recurring setting in which to navigate changes in marriage, friendship, and the life they have built together. The comparison works as a quick description of that vacation-set ensemble premise, not as an official Netflix or creator label.

The Netflix series adapts Alan Alda’s 1981 romantic comedy of the same name; it is not based on The White Lotus. Netflix says co-creators Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield were drawn to the original film’s cozy, fun quality. Netflix’s 2025 slate announcement quotes Fey saying the team wanted a cast of comedy actors who could create “the same warm, human vibe of the original.”
What the Netflix series is about
The eight-episode series follows six friends: Kate (Tina Fey), Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Steve Carell), Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), Danny (Colman Domingo), and Claude (Marco Calvani). At the start, the group learns that one couple is about to split, throwing its familiar vacation routine off balance. The yearly getaways are the structure; the lasting ties among the friends are the story’s center. The Associated Press describes three couples taking four annual vacations, one for each season. As the series moves through those trips, the friends have to adjust to changing relationships and, later, grief. The first-season ending includes Nick’s death and Ginny’s announcement that she is pregnant, according to Netflix Tudum’s Season 2 coverage.
How its tone differs from The White Lotus
The analogy should not be mistaken for a promise of matching satire. The available descriptions characterize The Four Seasons as a warm, empathetic comedy about people who have known one another for years. TIME’s review describes it as tender and wistful, and reports Fey calling it “a very, very gentle program.” That makes it better suited to viewers looking for humor and emotional change within a close-knit friend group than for a direct tonal substitute for The White Lotus.
The seasons also shape the show’s presentation: TIME notes that the episode pairs are set to the corresponding Vivaldi concerto. That detail supports the series’ seasonal framework, but does not make it a travel documentary or a resort satire.
Where the trips take the group
The series’ locations vary by season. Netflix reports that Season 1 filming took place in Cold Spring, Newburgh, and Fishkill in upstate New York, Puerto Rico, and at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. For Season 2, Netflix lists the Jersey Shore, upstate New York, and Italy as destinations in the story. These are reported filming or story locations; they do not mean every scene was shot at the resort or place shown on screen. How many seasons are available?
Season 2 is streaming on Netflix. Netflix’s Media Center also links to a September 23, 2026 report that Season 3 began filming. The sources cited here do not establish a Season 3 premiere date, so filming news should not be read as a release announcement. Check Netflix’s series page for current status.
