That is a weekly U.S. ranking—not an all-time list or a global audience count. Annual Nielsen results and Netflix’s global report offer useful context, but measure different things over different periods.
What are the most-watched shows right now?
Nielsen ranks its weekly U.S. streaming chart by total minutes viewed among people aged 2 and older. For the week of September 14–20, 2026, the leading overall titles were:
| Rank | Show | Service listed by Nielsen | Minutes viewed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Neagley | Prime Video | 1,776 million |
| 2 | Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story | Netflix | 1,481 million |
| 3 | Reacher | Prime Video | 1,420 million |
| 5 | Ted Lasso | Apple TV | 767 million |
The figures are Nielsen’s total U.S. viewing minutes through television for that week; they are not unique viewers. Nielsen’s chart notes that its provider list reflects services with program-level data in its systems, while its viewing data include streaming beyond those listed providers. See Nielsen’s weekly chart and methodology notes.
What about Max?
Nielsen’s same-week acquired-program list placed The Big Bang Theory first, at 950 million minutes, and Lanterns seventh, at 534 million minutes; both were listed under HBO Max. These are acquired-program rankings, a separate chart category from the overall list above. The service name is reproduced as Nielsen listed it for that chart.

Which shows led across a full year?
A weekly chart can be shaped by a new season, a release, or a particular viewing week. Nielsen’s 2025 U.S. annual rankings provide a longer look: the measurement period was December 30, 2024–December 28, 2025.
| Nielsen 2025 category | Leader | Minutes viewed | Service(s) listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall streaming titles | Bluey | 45.2 billion | Disney+ |
| Overall streaming titles | Grey’s Anatomy | 40.9 billion | Netflix and Hulu |
| Streaming originals | Stranger Things | 40.0 billion | Netflix |
| Streaming originals | Squid Game | 22.2 billion | Netflix |
| New original drama | The Pitt | 11.4 billion | HBO Max |
| New original comedy | Running Point | 5.1 billion | Netflix |
| New original comedy | The Four Seasons | 5.0 billion | Netflix |
The category rows answer different questions: The Pitt led Nielsen’s new original drama category, while Running Point led new original comedy and The Four Seasons was the comedy runner-up. Nielsen reports that U.S. audiences streamed 16.7 trillion minutes in 2025, up 19% from 14 trillion in 2024. That total describes viewing time under Nielsen’s measurement, not the number of people watching. Nielsen’s 2025 rankings and methodology.

Why accumulated minutes favor some shows
Total minutes are useful for estimating the volume of viewing, but they are not a direct measure of how many people tried a show or how many finished it. Nielsen notes that short episodes, extensive libraries, and repeat viewing can affect accumulated minutes. A long-running series can build a large total across many episodes; a shorter new series has fewer opportunities to accumulate time.
What does Netflix’s global report say?
Netflix’s own report for January–June 2026 uses global viewing data and its own metrics, so it belongs in a separate frame from Nielsen’s U.S. minutes rankings. Netflix reported more than 97 billion hours watched on the service during the first half of 2026. Its leading show was His & Hers, with 104 million views. Netflix also reported 100 million views for Bridgerton Season 4 and 180 million views for the Bridgerton franchise across the half-year.
Those “views” are Netflix’s reported measure, not an interchangeable equivalent of Nielsen minutes or hours. Netflix said it plans to move from a six-month to a yearly snapshot starting in Q1 2027; that is Netflix’s stated reporting plan, not a change announced for Nielsen or other services. How to compare “biggest” shows fairly
There is no single ranking that combines these reports into a reliable cross-service league table. Before comparing two titles, check that they share the same:
Rank #4
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
- Geography: Nielsen’s figures here are U.S. viewing; Netflix’s first-half report is global.
- Time window: a week, half-year, and calendar year produce different kinds of rankings.
- Metric: minutes, hours, and views are not equivalent measures.
- Title category: an overall list, originals list, acquired-program chart, or genre category has a different scope.
- Source: Nielsen is a third-party measurement provider; Netflix’s report covers Netflix and uses the service’s own reporting.
Nielsen describes The Gauge as “Nielsen’s monthly snapshot of total broadcast, cable and streaming consumption that occurs through a television screen.” That television-screen scope is useful context for understanding Nielsen’s charts; it does not make the figures a census of every device or every kind of viewing.
