As of October 8, 2026, several major anime announcements for the year have already reached their listed release dates, while others are still scheduled for later in the year. This selected slate highlights returning franchises, new adaptations and a Netflix original—not an objective ranking. “Biggest” here means titles with notable franchise profiles, announced release timing or official prominence; the available announcements do not provide comparable data for ranking them by audience or box office.
Which notable 2026 anime releases are still ahead?
The remaining dated premieres in this selection are Bass X Machina on November 3 and The Apothecary Diaries’ theatrical film on December 11. Other titles have a 2026 window or no firm date in the cited announcement. Dates below reflect the official listings available as of October 8, 2026; release schedules and territory availability can change.
| Title | Format and timing | What’s notable |
|---|---|---|
| Bass X Machina | Animated series; November 3, 2026 | Netflix describes it as a steampunk Western from LeSean Thomas, with animation by Studio Mir. Netflix lists the date; the announcement does not establish territory-specific availability. |
| The Apothecary Diaries theatrical film | Theatrical film; December 11, 2026 | Square Enix lists the date separately from season 3. The listing is Japan-facing; check local release schedules for other territories. |
| Fool Night | Anime adaptation; 2026, exact date not stated | Netflix announced an adaptation of the manga. Its premise imagines a future society using Transfloration to address oxygen scarcity. |
| Blue Eye Samurai season 2 | Returning series; described as “Coming Soon,” with no firm date in the cited announcement | Netflix describes a continuation set in London. The announcement does not confirm a specific 2026 premiere date. |
Bass X Machina: a new steampunk Western
For viewers looking for a new series rather than a sequel, Netflix’s slate pairs a November 3 date with a steampunk Western concept. LeSean Thomas is named as creator, and Studio Mir as the animation studio. Those details make it one of the clearest new-series entries in this selection, though the announcement alone does not settle when it will be available in every country.
The Apothecary Diaries: two separate releases
The franchise has two distinct dates on Square Enix’s anime listing: season 3 began October 2, 2026, and the theatrical film is dated December 11. The season premiere date has passed as of October 8; the film remains a later release. These are Japan-facing listing dates, not a guarantee of matching schedules elsewhere.

Which major returning franchises have 2026 anime announcements?
Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: a split-stage rollout
Netflix announced a March 19, 2026 premiere for Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, beginning with a 47-minute “1st STAGE” episode. Warner Bros. Japan’s listing subsequently gives a different milestone: stages 2 and 3, 11 episodes total, begin weekly distribution on Netflix on September 25. The March date is therefore not the only release point; the series is being rolled out in stages.
The franchise has a substantial history behind the adaptation. Netflix says the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1986 and reports more than 120 million copies in circulation. That is a publisher-reported circulation figure, not a count of copies sold during 2026.

Sakamoto Days season 2: confirmed, but undated
Netflix confirmed a second season for global release on its service in a Jump Festa announcement, but did not give a premiere date there. Its announcement also says season 1 spent 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English Series) list. That is Netflix-reported platform performance, not a cross-platform audience comparison.
Blue Eye Samurai season 2: a continuation without a firm date
Netflix says the new season is “Coming Soon” and describes a London-set continuation, but the cited announcement does not provide an exact date. Treat it as an announced return, not as a title with a confirmed 2026 premiere.

Which 2026 anime titles have already had their listed premiere dates?
The Ribbon Hero: a Tezuka-inspired feature
Netflix lists The Ribbon Hero as a feature film dated August 8, 2026, inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight and directed by Yuki Igarashi. That date has passed. The cited listing does not specify a worldwide theatrical release plan, so the date should not be read as confirmation of a theatrical opening in every market.
Steel Ball Run’s first stage and The Apothecary Diaries season 3
The listed March 19 date for Steel Ball Run’s 47-minute first-stage episode and the October 2 start for The Apothecary Diaries season 3 have also passed. For Steel Ball Run, later stages have their own rollout information; for The Apothecary Diaries, the December film date is separate from the season premiere.
