Is the Beatles biopic one movie or four?
It is a four-film project, not a single conventional biopic. Each film is intended to tell part of the band’s story from one Beatle’s point of view, with the four perspectives intersecting as a larger account. The project was announced by Sony Pictures, Sam Mendes and Neal Street Productions in February 2024; the official Beatles project page describes it as a four-film cinematic event.

The format leaves some practical questions unanswered: official announcements do not specify how much time each film covers, the order in which audiences will see them, or the spacing between releases.

When will the films be released?
The latest official release window is April 2028, when Sony Pictures plans a worldwide theatrical release with full theatrical windows. Sony’s original February 20, 2024 announcement had targeted 2027; the later February 12, 2026 production update gives April 2028 as the current window. No individual dates or release cadence have been announced in the official sources cited here.

Rights and scope
Sony and Apple Corps say the films are the first scripted project for which Apple Corps and the Beatles’ representatives granted full life-story and music rights. The public announcements do not detail the agreement’s terms, guarantee that every Beatles song will appear, or establish which biographical events the films will cover.

Production
The February 2026 update says filming is continuing in the UK. It names Greig Fraser as cinematographer, Lee Smith as editor and Giles Martin as executive music producer. The announcements do not provide a production budget, a completed-shooting date or soundtrack details.
Why four perspectives?
The structure is designed to place each member’s perspective alongside the others rather than reduce the band’s history to one protagonist’s account. Producer Pippa Harris described the plan in Sony’s 2024 announcement as “four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story.” That is the project’s stated creative intention, not a guarantee about how the finished films will balance those viewpoints.

- The exact theatrical dates for each film and whether all four will open together.
- The release order and the interval, if any, between films.
- How much of the Beatles’ history each film will cover.
- Which songs, performances and biographical details will appear.
