Tigris Snow is Coriolanus Snow’s cousin. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, she is part of the Snow family’s life in the Capitol during Coriolanus’s youth, decades before he becomes the ruler seen in the original Hunger Games story.
Who is Tigris Snow in the prequel?
Tigris is Coriolanus’s cousin, not his sister. She belongs to his family circle in the postwar Capitol, where the prequel follows a young Coriolanus and the 10th Hunger Games.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set 64 years before The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins has said the earlier setting allowed her to explore questions about whether people are shaped by nature or by experience through Snow, while telling Lucy Gray Baird’s story. Tigris is part of that context, but she is not the protagonist.
How does Tigris relate to Coriolanus Snow?
They are cousins who share the Snow family’s experience of hardship in the Capitol. Collins describes Snow’s childhood as formative to his later authoritarian convictions and complicated relationships. She also points out that people of his generation endured trauma, loss, and deprivation, yet Tigris, Sejanus, Lucy Gray, and Lysistrata turned out differently from him.
#1 Best Overall
- In this return to The Hunger Games, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he is chosen to be mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.
That contrast makes Tigris relevant to the prequel’s questions about how people respond to difficult circumstances. Collins’s comments establish the contrast, but do not provide a detailed psychological account of Tigris or explain every cause of her eventual estrangement from Snow.
Who plays Tigris in the 2023 film?
Hunter Schafer plays the younger Tigris in the 2023 film adaptation, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Schafer has discussed the difference between this earlier version and the older Tigris seen in Mockingjay, noting that the time between the stories gave the filmmakers room to develop a distinct visual and character approach.

The two portrayals belong to different points in Tigris’s life and to different adaptations. The official casting and Schafer’s comments support that broad distinction, but do not establish a scene-by-scene comparison of the book and films.
