Spoiler-light cast guide: Season 2 adds a new attending physician, two medical students, a nursing graduate and a recurring patient character. Two more performers are reported as Episode 13 guests. This guide covers those confirmed ensemble additions and named guests, not every one-episode patient in the season.
Who is new on The Pitt Season 2?
The central new addition is Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, played by Sepideh Moafi. The other reported recurring additions are medical students Joy Kwon and James Ogilvie, nursing graduate Emma Nolan, and patient Troy. Their roles and cast status are distinct: Al-Hashimi is a new series regular, while the June 2025 announcement described the other four as recurring additions.

Who plays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi?
Sepideh Moafi plays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, the new attending physician. The Associated Press reports that Al-Hashimi is slated to take over as chief attending while Dr. Robby takes a sabbatical. Moafi described the adjustment to sharing leadership as “a bit of a learning curve,” according to AP.
HBO Max included Moafi in its official Season 2 cast announcement. Her series-regular status sets her apart from the other newly announced recurring characters.

Which new doctors and nurses join the emergency department?
Joy Kwon and James Ogilvie: medical students
Irene Choi plays Joy Kwon, a third-year medical student. Lucas Iverson plays James Ogilvie, a fourth-year medical student. They bring two different stages of medical training into the emergency department; the available announcements identify their year and role, but do not establish further plot details.
Emma Nolan: a new nursing graduate
Laëtitia Hollard plays Emma Nolan, a recent nursing-school graduate joining the ER. She is a nursing addition rather than a physician or medical student.
Rank #2
Troy: a recurring patient
Charles Baker plays Troy, identified in the casting announcement as a recurring character. TIME’s description identifies Troy as an unhoused patient. That makes Troy a recurring patient role, not a new member of the medical staff.
Which actors are Episode 13 guests?
TVLine separately reported two guest appearances in Episode 13. They are not part of the June 2025 recurring-additions announcement.
Rank #3
- Mary McCormack guest-stars as neurosurgeon Dr. Linda Conley.
- Sara Wyle guest-stars as ER patient Ashley Davis.
These reports identify the episode and roles; they do not make either character a recurring addition or a series regular.
When does Season 2 take place?
Season 2 is set about ten months after Season 1 and unfolds over Fourth of July weekend. Creator R. Scott Gemmill described the timing this way: “We’re going to do Fourth of July weekend.” He also said the new characters add to the hospital’s changing dynamics: “We’re going to introduce a couple of new characters, as well, because there are always new people coming in and out of the hospital.”

What does “every confirmed new character” include?
“Every” here means the named, confirmed ensemble additions and the specifically reported Episode 13 guests above. It is not a complete inventory of every patient seen across the season: incidental, one-episode patient roles are not all enumerated in the cited casting reports. The confirmed cast information establishes the new roles and appearances listed here, rather than a season-wide count of every guest or patient.
