The creator behind the Ozzy Man Reviews voiceovers is Ethan Marrell, a Perth, Western Australia-based comedian and filmmaker. “The Perth bogan” is the comic character he performs—not a separate person—and Marrell has described the persona as an intelligent take on the Australian bogan stereotype.
Who is Ozzy Man?
Ethan Marrell created Ozzy Man Reviews. A 2017 profile by PerthNow identified him as a Perth man, former stand-up comedian and filmmaker. Marrell began the project while completing a master’s degree in Internet Communications at Curtin University.
The “Ozzy Man” voice and outlook are part of the performance. PerthNow described the character as a parody of a “dinky-di Australian bogan,” with a good heart despite the foul language. Marrell said he wanted to turn the usual joke around: “The idea with Ozzy Man was to kind of flip that on it’s head a bit. He’s a bogan and he represents the lower-to-middle class but he’s intelligent.” That is Marrell’s stated aim for the character, not a claim about all Australians or any social class.
How did the voiceover videos begin?
In a 2018 interview with Hello Social, Marrell said he had been making comedy videos since 2014 and began the project in April that year. He described a flexible format: remixing or mashing up footage, reacting to it, reviewing it, or narrating it with his own satirical observations. Subjects included viral clips, television, films, sport and wildlife. Early success included recaps of Game of Thrones.

The commentary is central to the format: the footage provides the scene, while the performed voiceover adds the joke, reaction or point of view. Marrell said that editing third-party footage took more work than it might appear to, and that using popular footage could result in copyright takedowns. Those remarks describe his experience; they are not legal advice about what uses of footage are permitted.
What did Marrell do before Ozzy Man Reviews?
Marrell told Hello Social that his earlier decade of creative work included stand-up comedy and independent filmmaking. He wanted a solo concept that would let him make videos prolifically, drawing on performance as well as editing. In a 2024 post on the Ozzy Man Reviews site, he recalled first getting interested in editing as a teenager in 1999, using iMovie on a Mac G3. He wrote, “Video editing will always be my first love when it comes to creativity.” That is a recollection of his early experience, not an indication of the tools he uses now.

Has the format gone beyond voiceovers?
Yes. The project has included collaborations and interviews as well as narrated comedy. In a July 2024 post, Ozzy Man Reviews described working with KLR Productions, a Seattle-based comedy voice-dub channel run by Kolby and Austin. The post discussed short clips shared across platforms and a longer compilation.
In April 2025, The West Australian reported that Marrell interviewed then-Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Their discussion covered policy topics including war, social media bans, housing and healthcare. It is an example of his output extending beyond comic narration of clips.

What is known about his audience and income?
Published audience figures are dated snapshots, not current channel statistics. PerthNow reported 5.4 million combined Facebook and YouTube followers, including 4.3 million on Facebook, in 2017. Hello Social reported more than 2.6 million YouTube followers and 811,000 Instagram followers in 2018. The West Australian reported 6.18 million YouTube subscribers in 2025. These figures come from different publications and dates, so they should not be treated as a like-for-like current count.
PerthNow’s 2017 profile described online advertising and merchandise as major revenue sources at that time. That historical report does not establish Marrell’s current revenue mix or whether merchandise is currently available. In his 2018 Hello Social interview, he said, “The creativity and concept must always come before the commerce. I feel it will ensure longevity.” This is his stated view on brand work, not evidence of current sponsorship or business arrangements.
