“Little Bird” is the Jonas Brothers’ song about fatherhood: the love parents feel for their children and the instinct to protect them. Nick Jonas connected its central image to an idea Kevin brought to the songwriting process—a little bird and the wish to keep one’s little ones safe. That establishes the song’s broad subject, while the meaning of any particular lyric remains open to interpretation.
What “Little Bird” is about
The band has described fatherhood as the song’s central theme. Nick Jonas said it addressed a subject the brothers had not previously explored in their music; Kevin Jonas likewise called it their first song about that experience. Nick summed up the subject as fatherhood and noted that the brothers were all fathers to daughters. Apple Music’s interview with the Jonas Brothers discusses the song in that context.

The title’s bird image suggests a child who is small and vulnerable, while the parent’s desire to protect the bird conveys tenderness and responsibility. Nick told Vanity Fair that Kevin shared the idea of a little bird and wanting to protect one’s little ones. Nick described the result as “a cool version of a parenting song.”
How the song took shape
The song grew from personal conversations with collaborator Jon Bellion. Nick Jonas said the brothers each spoke with Bellion about becoming fathers and what fatherhood meant to them. Bellion then came back with the song’s basic framework, and the Jonas Brothers added their own vocal and other contributions. In a GRAMMY.com interview, Nick described this as a different way to write about something the brothers were living through deeply.

What the bird image can—and cannot—tell us
The band’s comments support reading the little bird as a child and the song as an expression of parental love and protectiveness. Beyond that broad meaning, individual images or lyrics may resonate differently from listener to listener. The brothers’ public explanations establish the song’s subject and the origin of its central image; they do not confirm one exhaustive interpretation of every lyric.
