That was a dated U.S. Top 10 snapshot, not a live ranking: Netflix’s global chart for September 28–October 4, 2026 showed different titles at the top.
Which two movies did the headline mean?
BGR’s May 20, 2024 article identified Mother of the Bride and Thelma the Unicorn as Netflix original films in the U.S. movie Top 10. It placed the former at No. 3 and the latter at No. 4 in that snapshot. Those positions describe the chart at the time of the article, not a current ranking. BGR’s article is the source for the film descriptions and those 2024 positions.

Mother of the Bride
The rom-com premise centers on a mother whose daughter is marrying the son of her former partner. The 2024 article included the film among the U.S. chart’s leading titles; it did not establish a view count for it.
Thelma the Unicorn
This animated film follows a small-time pony who dreams of becoming a musical star. BGR described it as based on Aaron Blabey’s book series. The book is optional source material, not something a viewer needs in order to watch the movie.

What is on Netflix’s chart now?
As of the Netflix Tudum chart consulted October 8, 2026, the displayed global weekly list covered September 28–October 4, 2026. Its top three were UNABOMBER with 24.9 million weekly views, The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part with 11.6 million, and Doing Life with 9.3 million. These are weekly views, not hours viewed or lifetime totals. None of the two movies in the 2024 headline appears in that displayed top three. Netflix Tudum’s Top 10 page supplies the dated chart and notes that availability can vary by region.
The snapshots are not a like-for-like comparison: BGR reported positions in a U.S. Top 10 on May 20, 2024, while the later Netflix chart is global, covers a full week, and reports weekly views. The evidence does not establish current positions or view totals for Mother of the Bride or Thelma the Unicorn.

Why “right now” needs a date and a territory
Netflix rankings change, and a title’s position depends on the chart’s location and reporting period. A U.S. daily snapshot should not be treated as the same measure as a global weekly chart. Netflix also says some titles may not be available in every region. For a dated U.S. example of how quickly chart coverage can change, Tom’s Guide described its October 3, 2026 list as U.S. rankings captured at 11 a.m. ET that day; it is a separate snapshot, not a substitute for Netflix’s global weekly figures.
