In November 2025, a report said purported production footage from Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda film had appeared online, but it did not establish that the material was genuine. Nintendo later published official images of Link and Zelda; those images, not anonymously circulated footage or photos, are the verifiable visual reference. The film is now officially titled The Legend of Zelda, with a worldwide theatrical release announced for April 30, 2027.
Did Zelda movie set footage leak?
Nintendo Life reported on November 17, 2025, that purported production footage had supposedly leaked online. The report left the material’s authenticity unresolved, so it should be described as alleged or purported footage—not as a verified set leak. It also does not establish that every item circulating online was a still photograph. Read the report on the purported footage.

That distinction matters when assessing claims about what the material shows. The available reporting does not confirm a character, actor, scene, or costume based on the circulated footage. A post presenting an image as a set photo is not, by itself, evidence that it came from the production.
What has Nintendo officially confirmed?
The cast and filming
In its November 17, 2025 announcement, Nintendo said filming had started in a natural setting in New Zealand and identified Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Nintendo also shared official images of the two leads, providing a confirmed visual reference distinct from the unverified material described in the leak report. The title, format, and release date
Nintendo announced on September 8, 2026, that the film’s official title is The Legend of Zelda and that its planned worldwide theatrical release date is April 30, 2027. The date is an announced plan, not a guarantee; release schedules can change. Nintendo describes the project as a live-action film based on its The Legend of Zelda action-adventure game series. Read Nintendo’s title and release-date announcement.
Production and distribution
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s September 9, 2026 announcement says Sony is the worldwide distributor and a co-financier, with Nintendo financing more than half of production. It names Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad as producers. Nintendo’s original November 2023 development announcement had already said that Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment would co-finance the film. Are the leaked Zelda movie set photos real?
That has not been established by the cited report. The safest answer is that a report described purported leaked production footage in November 2025, while its authenticity remained uncertain. Treat images attributed to the leak as unverified unless Nintendo or Sony confirms them. For confirmed visuals, use Nintendo’s officially published images of Bragason and Ainsworth rather than fan-circulated material.
