Those pages do not establish whether season eight has been ordered, and they do not call season seven the final season. The available official information therefore answers whether the show is coming back, but not how many seasons remain.
What happened in the latest season?
Season six, which returned to PBS on January 11, 2026, is set in 1945 as the war in Europe winds down, according to the MASTERPIECE 2026 lineup. The series is based on James Herriot’s books.

In a January 8, 2022 press release, MASTERPIECE announced seasons three and four. That earlier multi-season commitment is useful history, but it does not establish the terms of the current renewal or confirm a season beyond seven. The same release reported that ten million viewers tuned in to season one; that is a historical figure reported by MASTERPIECE, not a current audience measure. Read the 2022 announcement.
