Vaziri died on June 7, 2023, at home in Fayetteville, Georgia, according to the Washington Post. Its initial obituary said the cause was not immediately available. On July 19, TMZ reported, citing a death certificate it said it obtained, that the cause was cardiac arrest, with congestive heart failure and hypertension also listed; TMZ described the manner of death as natural. The certificate itself was not independently reviewed in that report.

Who was The Iron Sheik?
The Iron Sheik was the ring name of Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, an Iranian-born professional wrestler. WWE’s career account says he defeated Bob Backlund for the WWE Championship at Madison Square Garden on December 26, 1983. He lost the title to Hulk Hogan on January 23, 1984. In 1985, he and Nikolai Volkoff won the World Tag Team Championship at the first WrestleMania. WWE inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2005.
