Their June 2025 announcements described the project as being in early development, with Story Kitchen meeting writers. They did not name a writer, cast, distributor, or release date, and the announcements do not establish a later production update.
What is The Midnight Walk adaptation?
It is a planned screen adaptation of the dark fantasy adventure game The Midnight Walk, developed by MoonHood Studios. Story Kitchen announced the partnership in June 2025; MoonHood separately confirmed the collaboration and also described it as being in its early stages.
At the time of Story Kitchen’s announcement, producers were meeting with writers. Neither company’s cited announcement names an attached writer, cast, distributor, release window, or subsequent production milestone. The early-development description is therefore announcement-era context, not confirmation of the project’s status today.
Story Kitchen’s announcement also notes the company’s broader first-look arrangements with Amazon MGM Studios for television and DreamWorks Animation for animated film. It does not say that either studio is producing or distributing this particular adaptation.

What is the game about?
The Midnight Walk is a dark fantasy adventure following the Burnt One, a mysterious figure, and Potboy, a lost lantern creature whose flame helps light the way. The journey unfolds across five tales of fire and darkness.
The game’s visual style is central to its identity: PlayStation says its environments and characters were first sculpted in real clay, then 3D-scanned and animated in a stop-motion style. Story Kitchen cofounder Dmitri M. Johnson said in the 2025 announcement that the team hand-crafted over 700 physical models before scanning them into Unreal. That is an attributed production figure from the announcement, not an independently audited count.

Story Kitchen cofounder Mike Goldberg described the world as having an “insanely beautiful, gothic, world-build” and expressed excitement about a Tim Burton- and Guillermo del Toro-esque approach. That was Goldberg’s personal characterization, not a confirmed creative direction or commitment from the adaptation’s filmmakers.
Who is making the adaptation?
The announced partners are Story Kitchen and MoonHood Studios. Story Kitchen’s cofounders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg said they were drawn to the game’s world, story, and craftsmanship. MoonHood cofounders Klaus Lyngeled and Olov Redmalm said they were pleased to see the game move toward film and television with Story Kitchen.
The announcements do not identify a director, screenwriter, production company beyond the named partners, or a specific film or television outlet. They also do not clarify whether the plan is one film, a series, or multiple projects across both formats.

Yes. The adaptation announcement is separate from the game’s platform releases. PlayStation lists the PS5 game’s release date as May 8, 2025, and says it can be played in VR using PS VR2; the headset is optional. MoonHood’s official site lists PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo UK lists the Switch 2 release date as March 26, 2026. Check the relevant regional storefront for current purchase options and availability.
