“When the Lights Come On,” Season 4, Episode 6 of Superman & Lois, earns the “most brutal” label through its punishing Clark Kent–Lex Luthor confrontation—not through any objective tally of violence. The fight lands amid the final season’s fallout from Superman’s death, while Luthor’s plans for Smallville and Sarah’s difficult decision give the episode stakes beyond the brawl.

What is the title of Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 6?

It is “When the Lights Come On.” Prime Video lists it as the sixth episode of Season 4. The episode’s title and season placement are also identified in Prime Video’s Season 4 catalog.

What happens in “When the Lights Come On”?

Prime Video’s episode synopsis says Lex Luthor plans to move LuthorCorp to Smallville, Lana stands in his way, and Sarah faces a difficult decision. Those threads establish the town-level and personal stakes alongside the episode’s central Clark–Lex conflict. The synopsis does not provide a full scene-by-scene recap.

Why does the episode feel so brutal?

The label describes a critical reaction to the physical confrontation between Clark and Lex, rather than a measured ranking against every other episode. ScreenRant highlights the visceral fight as a payoff to the season’s Doomsday setup and the consequences of Superman’s death. A separate SnowWatch review also singles out the fight as unusually brutal.

That context matters: the confrontation follows the death of Superman within the story, so it carries emotional weight as well as physical force. ScreenRant connects the season’s Doomsday storyline to the 1993 comic event “The Death of Superman”; that is the critic’s framing, not evidence that the television story directly adapts the comic scene for scene.

Is it objectively the series’ most violent episode?

The available episode descriptions and reviews support calling it unusually brutal as a critical judgment, but they do not establish that it contains more violence than every other installment. There is no episode-by-episode comparison of fight length, intensity, or violence counts to substantiate an objective superlative. A comparison would need to assess the Clark–Lex fight’s scale and duration, its emotional stakes, and how it advances the season’s conflict.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman: Season 4
  • Lois Lane and Clark Kent saved the best for last. In their final season, they finally get married. There are a few roadblocks along the highway to marital bliss: a worlds-at-war battle with Lord Nor; an adventure-packed encounter with the Wedding Destroyer, who believes folks are better dead than wed; and even wedding-night interruptus compliments of time-traveling H.G. Wells. But before or after
