Freedom,” she said in a statement published April 21, 2026.
What Ashley Harkleroad said about the breakup
In a statement to TMZ, Harkleroad said she married at 19 and had spent much of her life listening to and obeying men in her life, including her father and Adams, who was also her coach. She said she now wanted to live on her own terms, ending with: “I deserve that. Freedom.” TMZ published her statement on April 21, 2026.
Those are Harkleroad’s words and her account of the relationship. The report does not include a response from Adams to her characterization, so her statement should not be treated as a jointly agreed explanation for the marriage ending.
What TMZ reported about the separation filing
In a report published April 20, TMZ said court records showed Adams submitted a separation petition on April 14, 2026, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The outlet reported that he requested joint custody of their two minor children, with physical custody to Harkleroad and visitation for him, and asked to end the court’s ability to award her spousal support. These are requests described in TMZ’s account of the filing—not court rulings. The underlying records have not been independently reviewed here. Read TMZ’s filing report.
