How much did Sting sell his music catalog for?
In 2022, Sting reached a global music-publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group covering his solo works and songs with The Police. Sting’s announcement described the catalog covered but did not disclose the price.
The Guardian reported that the terms were undisclosed and that the agreement was thought to be worth up to $300 million. That is a contemporaneous press estimate of the transaction’s potential value, not a confirmed sale price. How did Sting make his money?
The evidence points to the scale of Sting’s music career and the monetization of songwriting rights, but it does not provide a reliable breakdown of his income or current wealth by source.
