That answer applies to Forbes’s definition of a celebrity: someone who became famous before becoming very wealthy. Forbes later displayed a separate, real-time estimate of $7.9 billion for Spielberg on October 2, 2026; it is a later snapshot, not the figure used for the March ranking.
What Forbes’s “richest celebrity” ranking means
Forbes’s 2026 World’s Celebrity Billionaires ranking includes people who became famous first and then amassed great wealth. It excludes people whose fame came from being wealthy or from business success. “Richest celebrity” is therefore the winner within Forbes’s category, not a universal ranking of every famous person or wealthy business leader.

Forbes counted 22 celebrities with a combined estimated fortune of $48.1 billion in 2026. The same feature reported 18 celebrities and $39 billion combined in 2025. Those totals describe the lists as Forbes assembled them; they do not mean that the wealth of every individual rose by a particular amount.
How Spielberg compares with other celebrities
Forbes’s March 1, 2026 valuation snapshot puts Spielberg ahead of George Lucas and Michael Jordan:

These are estimates from the same publisher, date and list definition, so they are the most useful like-for-like comparisons. Forbes’s Spielberg profile later showed $7.9 billion as of October 2, 2026. Because that is a later real-time estimate, it should not be substituted into the March table.
How Spielberg built his fortune
Forbes identifies movies as Spielberg’s source of wealth. Its profile also notes that he co-founded DreamWorks in 1994 with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, and that his Universal Orlando consulting work is connected to a share of theme-park ticket revenue. These are broad descriptions of wealth sources, not an itemized account of his assets or a full explanation of how Forbes calculated the total.

Bloomberg’s Steven Spielberg profile describes the Universal theme-park consulting agreement as perpetual. It reports that Comcast’s annual report gave the agreement a carrying value of $1.1 billion at the end of 2024. That is Comcast’s accounting value for the agreement—not a statement that Spielberg received a $1.1 billion payment, nor a disclosed total for his personal net worth.
Bloomberg also says its calculation excludes undisclosed proceeds tied to Spielberg’s DreamWorks SKG equity and notes that details of the Amblin Partners–Netflix deal were not disclosed. The available accounts therefore do not establish a complete, publicly itemized picture of his holdings.

A net-worth estimate is not the same as cash in a bank account, an audited personal balance sheet or a figure Spielberg has publicly confirmed. Bloomberg says Spielberg’s spokesman declined to comment on his net worth. Forbes’s two figures are estimates from different dates, and the sources do not present them as personal disclosures by Spielberg.
When comparing celebrity fortunes, keep the publisher, category, valuation date and measure consistent. A later real-time estimate, box-office gross or annual income is not interchangeable with a dated estimate of net worth in a particular ranking.
