The Ba***ds of Bollywood has a ready-made target in the egos, power plays and spectacle of the Hindi film industry. Its best moments turn that setting into knowing comedy; its weaker stretches let the satire sprawl, while an unconvincing romance and uneven plotting dilute the momentum. The result is entertaining in patches, but not a particularly sharp or sustained industry takedown.
What is The Ba***ds of Bollywood about?
Netflix describes the seven-episode drama as the story of an ambitious outsider and his friends navigating Bollywood. Its central character, Aasmaan Singh (Lakshya), is a newcomer trying to make his way through the Hindi film industry. He has the support of loyal friend Parvaiz (Raghav Juyal) and manager Sanya (Anya Singh), but his prospects become entangled with superstar Ajay Talvar (Bobby Deol) and Ajay’s daughter Karishma (Sahher Bambba), who is cast opposite him.
The series was created and directed by Aryan Khan, with Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan as co-creators. Netflix credits all three as writers and Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd. as producer. The ensemble also includes Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Rajat Bedi, Vijayant Kohli and Gautami Kapoor. Netflix’s announcement introduced the cast and premise ahead of the show’s premiere.
Does the satire land?
The series has plenty of material to work with: celebrity egos, industry hierarchies, image-making and the absurdity of trying to build a career inside a star-driven business. Its self-aware jokes and references give it flashes of energy, and the broad, theatrical approach suits a story built around Bollywood spectacle.

But spectacle is not the same as a focused critique. The jokes and satirical targets can feel scattershot rather than building toward a clear argument about the industry. India Today’s Sana Farzeen describes the show as embracing Bollywood’s madness rather than debunking it. That distinction fits the experience: it is more interested in playing with the industry’s excess than systematically exposing it.
What works—and what doesn’t?
The comic passages and cameos
India Today praised the show’s wit, performances, cameos and comic passages. Those moments are its main draw: familiar industry conventions become material for jokes, and the cast gives the heightened world much of its colour. The comedy works best when a scene has a clear target and does not need to carry the whole weight of the story.

The story and romance
The larger plot is less consistent. Farzeen found dips in the narrative and said it could have been tighter; the romance, in her view, is unconvincing. When the relationship does not feel persuasive, the dramatic stakes around it lose force. The review also singled out a weak climax and said some brand placements distract from the show.
These are critical judgments, not objective measures, but they point to the series’ central imbalance: individual scenes can be funny or lively while the connective story feels less assured. India Today rated it 3.5 out of 5.

Is it worth watching?
It is a reasonable choice if you enjoy celebrity cameos, self-aware industry humour and a knowingly over-the-top Bollywood setting. Go in expecting comic set pieces and drama rather than a tightly constructed satire or a comprehensive exposé. Viewers who need a convincing central romance or consistently disciplined plotting may find the unevenness more noticeable than the jokes.
