For a new science-fiction series from 2025, T3’s year-end picks span alien survival, rogue artificial intelligence, hive-mind mystery and cosmic horror. This is an editorial selection, not an objective ranking; it focuses on new releases and first seasons rather than returning shows. Streaming labels below reflect the services named by T3 and official sources, but availability varies by country and can change.
The seven picks at a glance
| Show | What it’s about | Where to start looking |
|---|---|---|
| The Eternaut | A toxic snowfall triggers a survival crisis in Buenos Aires, before survivors discover an extraterrestrial threat. | Netflix |
| Murderbot | A self-hacking security construct develops autonomy and would rather watch futuristic soap operas than do its job. | Apple TV |
| Alien: Earth | A research ship carrying Xenomorphs reaches Earth in 2120, where hybrid Wendy is central to the story. | Hulu in the US; check the local Disney+ or other regional listing |
| Pluribus | Fantasy author Carol Sturka is among the few people immune to an alien transformation that turns humanity into a hive mind. | Apple TV |
| Cassandra | A family encounters a sinister AI housekeeper after moving into a smart home. | Netflix, as listed by T3 |
| IT: Welcome to Derry | A prequel to IT that explores Pennywise’s cosmic, interdimensional origins; it leans toward supernatural horror. | HBO Max in the US; Sky/NOW in the market listed by T3 |
| The War Between the Land and the Sea | A Doctor Who spin-off about humanity’s confrontation with aquatic beings. | BBC iPlayer; Disney+ in the US was a forecast for 2026 in T3’s December 2025 article, not current confirmation |
These are signposts rather than worldwide guarantees. Netflix identifies The Eternaut as its series; a US JustWatch check dated October 7, 2026 also listed it on Netflix. Apple’s official page places Murderbot on Apple TV, while FX directs US viewers to Hulu for Alien: Earth. Check the service’s listing in your own country before subscribing.

Which show fits your mood?
For alien survival and escalating danger
The Eternaut begins with a disaster shared by ordinary people: toxic snow falls over Buenos Aires, turning survival into a collective problem. It is adapted from Héctor Germán Oesterheld’s Argentine graphic novel, and Netflix describes the survivors as facing both the snowfall and an extraterrestrial force. This is the pick for viewers drawn to community under pressure more than a conventional space adventure.
Alien: Earth takes a more familiar franchise route. Its 2120 setting, Xenomorph threat and hybrid protagonist put the danger on Earth rather than in a distant expedition. The show is the first television series in the Alien franchise, according to T3’s roundup.

For artificial intelligence with very different personalities
Murderbot makes autonomy comic and character-led: its security-robot protagonist hacks its own system, gains independence and has a strong preference for watching soap operas. Apple describes the series as based on Martha Wells’s The Murderbot Diaries. If the show sends you back to the source, the books by Wells are an optional next step.
Cassandra is the more domestic and unsettling AI story. Rather than a robot escaping a corporate assignment, its threat is embedded in a family’s smart home, where an AI housekeeper turns a new living arrangement sinister.
For an idea-driven mystery or cosmic horror
Pluribus centers on an unusual social transformation: most of humanity becomes a hive mind, while Carol Sturka and a small number of others remain immune. The hook is less a conventional invasion battle than the mystery and consequences of a changed human society.
IT: Welcome to Derry is the outlier if you want science fiction in a narrow sense. T3 includes it for its cosmic and interdimensional explanation of Pennywise, while acknowledging that it is closer to supernatural horror than straightforward sci-fi. Choose it for the horror mythology, not for hard science.

For a familiar franchise world
The War Between the Land and the Sea extends the Doctor Who universe through a conflict between humanity and aquatic beings. Its connection to an established franchise makes it the natural option for viewers who want a new story in a familiar world; its listed viewing destination depends particularly on country and release timing.

T3’s December 31, 2025 article named Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, HBO Max, Sky and NOW across the seven picks. Those labels are starting points, not proof of current availability everywhere. FX points US viewers to Hulu for Alien: Earth, while US Disney+ availability was only forecast by T3 for The War Between the Land and the Sea in 2026. The US listing check for The Eternaut does not establish availability elsewhere.

For the most reliable answer, search the show title in the streaming apps available in your region or check a local availability guide. Avoid assuming that a service name in a US listing applies to another country; rights and service branding differ by market.
