12 shocking moments from Season 4
-
Zoe Neuman reveals her powers
In the opening episode, Victoria Neuman’s daughter Zoe uses supe powers to kill CIA agents. The reveal makes Victoria’s political danger immediate and intimate: she has put Compound V into her child, with consequences Zoe cannot simply leave behind.
-
Sister Sage chooses a lobotomy
Sage asks the Deep to remove part of her brain. The grotesque act complicates her image as the smartest person in the room: her intelligence is something she can deliberately alter, not just a superpower she deploys against everyone else.

With the stakes higher than ever, they must find a way to work together and save the world before it's too late.

Splinter’s copies make for a deeply unsettling scene
In Episode 2, Splinter’s ability to duplicate himself drives an intentionally repulsive sexual scene. Its shock comes from the show pushing an already strange power into a deliberately uncomfortable place; the plot does not require dwelling on the graphic details.
-
Vought-on-Ice becomes a bloodbath
A covert operation at an ice-rink production spirals into chaos, and performers’ sharp skates turn the corporate spectacle into a scene of sudden, gruesome violence. The contrast between polished entertainment and uncontrolled danger makes it one of the season’s most memorable set pieces.

Firecracker exposes Annie’s abortion on air
Firecracker weaponizes Annie’s private history during a public broadcast. Annie responds by attacking her onstage, turning a smear campaign into an uncontrolled public act. The shock is less about a secret being revealed than about how effectively the humiliation pushes Annie past her restraint.
-
Hughie’s father wakes after being given Compound V
As Hugh’s father lies near death, Hughie obtains Compound V but listens when Butcher warns him not to use it. Someone puts the serum into Hugh’s IV anyway, and Hugh wakes from his coma. The apparent reprieve brings a dangerous, uncertain consequence into Hughie’s family life.

Virus-infected farm animals attack
The Boys find animals exposed to Compound V at a farm. Their attempt to use the supe-killing virus on them ends in a gruesome attack from the sky. The scene makes the virus plot feel immediate and unpredictable: the threat is no longer confined to a lab or a plan.
-
Butcher has secretly kept Sameer alive
After Sameer appears to have lost a leg, the season reveals that he is alive and being held by Butcher, who is using him to produce more virus. It is a major betrayal of the team’s trust, and evidence that Butcher is prepared to pursue his plan by increasingly ruthless means.

Webweaver dies—and A-Train is exposed
Homelander kills Webweaver after torturing him for information. When Homelander’s side attacks the Boys’ hideout, A-Train has to reveal that he has been helping them and fight his former teammates. The sequence combines a brutal death with a decisive break in A-Train’s old allegiance.
-
Ryan kills Grace Mallory
Grace and Butcher try to recruit Ryan into a plan against Homelander. Ryan reacts violently and kills Grace, shattering the attempt to reach him. The shock is both the death and Ryan’s reaction afterward: he is left stunned by what he has done.

Butcher kills Victoria Neuman after she offers an alliance
Neuman seeks protection for herself and Zoe and agrees to help the Boys against Homelander. Butcher arrives and kills her with the tentacled supe power emerging from his body. Her death destroys Hughie’s effort to build an alliance and removes a major political player at the moment cooperation seems possible.

The finale shifts power—and reveals Soldier Boy is alive
Homelander’s allies move to control the government and deputize supes, leaving Homelander effectively in control. The mid-credits scene adds a separate jolt: Soldier Boy is alive in cryosleep. It confirms his survival, not what he will do next.
Why the finale’s shocks matter most
The season’s grotesque scenes can be hard to forget, but the finale concentrates its most consequential reversals: Ryan kills Mallory, Butcher kills Neuman after she offers an alliance, and Homelander’s allies seize control of the political order. These events close off paths the characters had been trying to pursue and leave the next conflict on a much larger scale.
Soldier Boy’s appearance in the end tag is a final warning rather than a resolution. The scene establishes that he is alive and in cryosleep; it does not answer what happens when he wakes.
