The ranking below uses FilmDB’s reported worldwide theatrical grosses for his credited acting films; the figures are nominal, not adjusted for inflation, and are not measures of studio profit or De Niro’s pay.
How this ranking works
The order and figures below follow FilmDB’s Robert De Niro box-office filmography, which provides a consistent basis for comparing the ten titles. “Worldwide gross” means reported theatrical box-office receipts across territories. It does not mean ticket sales, inflation-adjusted value, the amount a studio kept, or an actor’s compensation. The scope is films in which De Niro has an acting credit, including voice performances; it excludes films he directed or produced without acting.

Box-office databases can report different cumulative totals. For example, FilmDB lists Meet the Fockers at $516.6 million, while Box Office Mojo reports $522,657,936 worldwide on its chart dated October 8, 2026. The figures in the ranking stay on the FilmDB basis rather than mixing sources. [FilmDB’s De Niro filmography; Box Office Mojo chart entry]

What the ranking shows
Joker leads by a wide margin
Joker stands well ahead of the rest of the list. Box Office Mojo reports $1,078,958,629 worldwide on its chart result dated September 17, 2026, including $335,477,657 domestic and $743,480,972 foreign. Those territory figures belong to Box Office Mojo, not the FilmDB-based ranking above. [Box Office Mojo’s worldwide chart]
The Byrnes family comedies occupy three places
De Niro’s Jack Byrnes appears in three of the ten titles: Meet the Fockers, Meet the Parents, and Little Fockers. Together with his voice role as Don Lino in Shark Tale, these are the four entries above the $300 million mark on FilmDB’s reported totals. Nikki Rocco, then Universal’s head of distribution, described Meet the Fockers as “It’s a sequel to a successful comedy,” in a January 3, 2005 Box Office Mojo article. [Box Office Mojo article]

Voice acting counts when the ranking covers acting credits
Shark Tale ranks third because the list includes credited acting performances, not just on-screen appearances. De Niro voices Don Lino in the animated film; excluding voice roles would change the scope rather than correct the ranking.
Later entries include dramas, crime films, and a thriller
The rest of the top ten spans several kinds of roles: a family drama in Silver Linings Playbook, a workplace comedy in The Intern, the crime film Heat, the comedy Analyze This, and the thriller Limitless. Their places reflect reported worldwide gross, not critical standing or an assessment of De Niro’s best performances.

Why other lists may show different numbers
Worldwide grosses can vary between databases as reported totals are updated or compiled differently. Box Office Mojo’s $522,657,936 total for Meet the Fockers is $6,057,936 higher than FilmDB’s $516.6 million. Box Office Mojo’s figure is composed of $279,261,160 domestic and $243,396,776 foreign, as shown on its October 8, 2026 chart entry. Keep a comparison within one database, or clearly attribute each figure to its source and date; do not combine totals from different services as though they were one consistent ranking.
