In Patty Arellano’s August 8, 2025 ranking, Anya Forger from Spy x Family is the cutest anime girl of the 2020s so far. The list is an individual editorial selection, not an official franchise ranking or a fan poll; “cute” can mean tenderness, shyness, visual appeal, or a character who simply makes viewers smile.
How to read this ranking
Arellano’s article, “Top 10 Waifus of the most adorable anime of the decade,” presents its choices in descending order. It offers no scoring rubric, voting method, or sample showing that the order represents broad fan opinion. Treat the positions as one writer’s taste, and the list as a snapshot of the decade so far—not a verdict on the full 2020s.
The appeal described in the ranking spans several different qualities: gentle warmth, shy reactions, expressive design, outgoing enthusiasm, and playful mischief. Those are descriptive lenses, not measured criteria, so a character’s position should not be read as a score.

Anya Forger — Spy x Family
Anya is Arellano’s number-one pick. The article describes her as expressive, innocent, mischievous, and meme-friendly—a combination that makes her reactions and playful side central to the choice.
So, who is the cutest anime girl of the 2020s?
For this particular August 2025 list, the answer is Anya Forger. There is no established universal winner: the ranking does not report a poll or objective scoring system, and it covers the decade only “so far.” A viewer who values quiet elegance, warmth, bold energy, or expressive comedy may reasonably prefer someone else.
