The available net-worth figures are secondary-site estimates, not audited disclosures, and they do not establish a defensible order. A useful look at the decade separates two questions: which artists shaped hip-hop between 2000 and 2009, and what can responsibly be said about their wealth.
Why a net-worth ranking would be misleading
“Best” describes artistic impact; “wealthiest” describes personal finances. Neither determines the other. The sources reviewed do not provide comparable, audited figures for ten artists, nor a consistent method for valuing personal assets, business interests, debts, or income over time. Estimates published by entertainment sites may differ in date and scope, and should not be treated as confirmed balance sheets.
That means the evidence cannot support a precise top-ten wealth order. It can, however, document period activity and help explain why artists from the decade are part of the conversation. Charts and album releases show public career milestones; they do not reveal an artist’s net worth.
Artists with documented work in the decade
These examples are grounded in the cited career and period records. They are not a complete or ranked top ten: the available material does not establish a defensible ten-person shortlist, and the order below is not a wealth ranking.

Why the decade’s boundary matters
A list defined by artists who released major work during 2000–2009 will differ from one based on when an artist first signed, became famous, or reached commercial prominence. Nicki Minaj illustrates the distinction: AllMusic’s biography says she signed to Young Money in August 2009, while her debut studio album, Pink Friday, arrived in November 2010. She belongs to the story’s late-decade transition, but her breakout album falls outside the period. AllMusic’s Nicki Minaj biography.

What contemporary records can—and cannot—show
A 2005 Billboard year-end chart lists Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim among female R&B/hip-hop artists. A 2007 Billboard issue preserved by WorldRadioHistory also covers women in hip-hop and contemporary chart and sales context. These records help place artists in their commercial moment, but neither compares personal assets or establishes a wealth ranking.
- Billboard’s 2005 year-end female R&B/hip-hop artists chart is a period-specific chart record.
- The November 10, 2007 Billboard issue is archived trade coverage, not a current or audited financial source.
How to assess a published net-worth estimate
If you encounter a list claiming to rank these artists by wealth, inspect its methodology before treating the numbers as meaningful. A figure without a clear date, scope, and independent corroboration is especially difficult to compare with another publisher’s estimate.

- Publication date: The estimate may describe a particular moment, not the artist’s finances across the 2000s or today.
- Scope: Check whether the publisher says it estimates personal wealth, business assets, or something else—and whether debts are accounted for.
- Method and sourcing: Look for an explanation of how the figure was assembled and whether independent sources corroborate it.
- Like-for-like comparison: Even estimates from the same site may not be comparable if their dates or stated methods differ.
The material available here does not resolve those questions across a complete set of ten artists. Without consistent evidence, assigning exact positions would create false precision.
