The movie behind the headline is KPop Demon Hunters. It spent four weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 English-language films chart during July 2025, then ranked No. 1 in its fifth week. “Right now” referred to the headline’s July 16, 2025 publication date—not to Netflix’s chart on October 8, 2026.
Which Netflix movie did the headline mean?
KPop Demon Hunters, the animated musical action film centered on fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X. BGR’s July 16, 2025 story said the film had been in Netflix’s global Top 10 English-language movie chart for four weeks. Netflix’s weekly reports confirm its strong run, including a No. 1 position in the English Films list for the week ending July 13 and another No. 1 position the following week.
The film is a Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation partnership directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Netflix’s official account of the film and its soundtrack is available in its August 26, 2025 article.
How the July 2025 chart run unfolded

These are Netflix weekly chart figures, not lifetime totals. In its July 22 report, Netflix called the fifth week the film’s highest week of viewing to that point and said no other film had done the same. That record characterization belongs to Netflix’s report at that date; it should not be read as a claim about every later chart or a different measurement.

BGR also reported that, for the week ending July 13, the movie appeared in Netflix’s Top 10 in 93 countries and ranked No. 1 in 26. Those geographic figures are BGR’s report of Netflix data for that particular week, not a permanent measure of availability or ranking.
Why “No. 1 on Netflix” depends on the chart
Netflix publishes rankings for different categories and territories. The global English Films list is not the same chart as a country-specific list or an all-movie ranking. For example, Netflix’s U.S. chart for July 7–13 placed KPop Demon Hunters at No. 2, while its global English Films report described the movie as No. 1.

What the all-time figure means—and what it does not
Netflix’s all-time movie chart returned KPop Demon Hunters at No. 1 with 325.1 million views as of the chart available on October 8, 2026. Netflix defines its all-time movie rankings using views during each title’s first 91 days after release. That is a bounded cumulative measure, not the number of people watching in a particular week, and it cannot be compared directly with a weekly ranking.

Netflix had previously said on August 26, 2025 that the film was its most popular film of all time, with more than 236 million views to date. That was Netflix’s statement at that time; the later all-time chart uses its stated first-91-days method and has a different reported value.

No conclusion about today’s weekly leader follows from a July 2025 headline. Netflix’s current weekly chart is separate from the historical run described here, and the all-time chart answers a different question. To check a current ranking, consult Netflix’s Top 10 charts and note the chart category, territory, and reporting week shown.
