What these box-office totals do—and do not—measure
A worldwide gross is the reported amount earned at the box office, not the studio’s profit. It does not account for costs such as marketing or for how ticket revenue is divided among studios, distributors, and theaters. A gross-to-budget comparison alone cannot establish a film’s return.
The ranking is also not inflation-adjusted, so it compares the listed dollar totals rather than the films’ purchasing power across their release eras. An inflation-adjusted ranking would be a different comparison.

Why other box-office listings may differ
Box Office Mojo’s Terminator franchise page orders its entries by domestic lifetime gross and lists some Terminator 2 re-releases separately, including 2017 and 2026 entries. The Numbers’ franchise table instead provides the worldwide totals used here. The databases also show some domestic-gross differences, reflecting differences in reporting and release accounting. For a consistent ranking, use one source and its stated grouping rather than combining figures across databases.
For example, The Numbers’ individual Terminator 2: Judgment Day page reports $517,970,552 worldwide: $206,089,758 domestic and $311,880,794 international. It also records later theatrical releases; those release details do not change the basis of the franchise-table ranking above.
