Taylor Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department on February 4, 2024, while accepting the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights. That was her 13th Grammy win at the time; she won Album of the Year later that evening, finishing the ceremony with 14 wins.
What album did Taylor Swift announce?
Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department, her 11th original studio album, excluding re-recordings. It was her first original album since Midnights, released in October 2022, according to the Associated Press.
She revealed the album during her Best Pop Vocal Album acceptance speech at the 66th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The Recording Academy counted that award as her 13th Grammy win. Swift then announced an April 19, 2024 release date, saying, “My brand-new album comes out April 19. It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage.”
How many Grammys had she won that night?
The announcement came after her 13th win, not her 14th. Later in the ceremony, Swift won Album of the Year for Midnights, her fourth win in that category and her 14th Grammy overall. The Recording Academy’s artist profile reports 14 career wins.
