On September 10, 2024, after the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Taylor Swift said she planned to vote for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. She urged followers to register and vote early where possible. A reported spike in Vote.gov visits followed, but that figure does not show how many people registered, voted, or changed their vote.
What Taylor Swift said in her endorsement
In an Instagram post on September 10, 2024, Swift wrote: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.” The Washington Post and ABC News reported her endorsement that day.

Swift also explained her choice, saying she was voting for Harris “because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” She described Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader,” according to The Guardian.
Alongside endorsing the Democratic ticket, Swift encouraged her followers to register to vote and to vote early where possible, sharing voter-registration information. The endorsement was a public statement of her own intended vote and a call for civic participation; it was not evidence of how her followers would vote.

Why Swift said she was making her plans public
Swift said a false AI-generated image that portrayed her as a Trump supporter prompted her to state her actual voting plans clearly. As TIME reported, she wanted to be transparent about her decision as a voter after the misleading image circulated. Her explanation makes misinformation part of the context for the post, rather than just an aside to the endorsement.
What the Vote.gov figure does—and does not—show
CBS News reported on September 12, 2024, that Vote.gov received 405,999 visits in the 24 hours after Swift’s endorsement. That is a count of visits to a voter-information website as reported by CBS News, not a verified count of unique people, completed voter registrations, or ballots cast.

After the endorsement, online posts falsely claimed that Coca-Cola cut ties with Swift because she backed Harris. FactCheck.org addressed and found that claim false on September 20, 2024. It should not be treated as evidence of a corporate response to Swift’s endorsement.
