At Taylor Swift’s October 26, 2024, Eras Tour show in New Orleans, she reportedly made a football-throwing motion during “Midnight Rain.” ELLE interpreted the gesture as a nod to Travis Kelce, but Swift has not publicly confirmed that was her intent.
What did Taylor Swift do during “Midnight Rain”?
ELLE reporter Aimée Lutkin reported that, during the song’s outro, Swift made a motion resembling a football pass as she sang, “He never thinks of me, except when I’m on TV.” Lutkin described the moment as an onstage tribute to Kelce, the NFL player Swift was dating at the time. ELLE’s October 27, 2024 report is the source for the gesture and its interpretation.

When and where did the moment happen?
The reported gesture took place at the October 26, 2024, concert at Caesars Superdome, part of Swift’s three-show New Orleans run from October 25 through 27. Swift’s official tour archive lists the New Orleans venue and October 25 date; the Caesars Superdome event listing gives the full three-day run and names Gracie Abrams as a special guest. A community-maintained setlist.fm entry identifies the October 26 performance and includes “Midnight Rain” on the setlist.
Was Travis Kelce at the New Orleans show?
ELLE reported that Kelce was unable to attend the performance. The supposed nod was therefore conveyed through Swift’s gesture, not a reaction captured between the two at the concert.

Did Swift confirm the gesture was about Kelce?
No direct explanation from Swift appears in the reviewed coverage. “A nod to Kelce” is ELLE’s interpretation of the football-like motion and its timing; it should not be treated as a confirmed statement of Swift’s motive.

Separately, Good Morning America covered Swift’s appreciation for fan traditions, including friendship-bracelet trading. The outlet reported her saying, “You’ve created traditions. You’ve created this mass movement of joy every time we play a show. And it makes me so proud, it really does.” Those comments concern the tour’s fan culture, not the meaning of the football gesture. Good Morning America’s October 26, 2024 coverage reported the remarks.
