Taylor Sheridan is expected to move his television work to NBCUniversal in 2029, after his Paramount television agreement ends in 2028. Reports describe a five-year deal that could be worth up to $1 billion if his projects succeed, but that is a conditional reported ceiling—not a confirmed guaranteed payment. Paramount is reported to retain its existing Sheridan series and related later seasons and spin-offs.
When is Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount?
Sheridan’s Paramount television agreement is reported to run through the end of 2028. The Associated Press reported on Oct. 7, 2026, that he will move to NBCUniversal when that contract expires; his television work under the new arrangement is expected to begin in 2029. Associated Press
When does Taylor Sheridan’s NBCUniversal deal start?
Television work is reported to start in 2029. The Wall Street Journal report says Sheridan may make movies for NBCUniversal earlier, so the film and television timelines are not necessarily the same. It also reports a separate first-look deal between NBCUniversal and 101 Studios, effective in 2026; that is distinct from Sheridan’s reported overall television agreement. The Wall Street Journal
How much is Taylor Sheridan’s NBCUniversal deal worth?
The Wall Street Journal reported a five-year agreement that could be worth up to $1 billion depending on the success of Sheridan’s projects. That figure is attributed to people familiar with the agreement and describes a possible outcome, not a disclosed or guaranteed fee. The Los Angeles Times reported that the financial terms were not disclosed. No public contract or official studio announcement confirming the deal terms was identified in the cited reporting. Are Yellowstone and the other Sheridan shows moving to NBCUniversal?
Not as a wholesale transfer, based on the reported terms. The Los Angeles Times reported that Paramount would retain the library of Sheridan’s existing shows, as well as subsequent seasons or spin-offs of those series. The move concerns future work under a new deal, not an immediate relocation of Yellowstone and the other existing Paramount titles.
Paramount’s ongoing slate also continues during the transition. In its Oct. 7, 2026 report, the Associated Press cited forthcoming seasons of Landman and Tulsa King, alongside additional Yellowstone spin-offs, prequels and sequels in Paramount+’s pipeline. That report did not give specific release dates. Associated Press
A separate example of work continuing with Paramount is the Call of Duty feature film announced by Paramount Pictures and Activision on Oct. 30, 2025. The Associated Press reported that Sheridan and Peter Berg were set to co-write and produce it, with Berg directing. The project illustrates why a future overall deal should not be taken to mean that every existing or separately arranged project changes studios. Associated Press

Published accounts attribute the move to disagreements with Paramount’s new leadership, including reported disputes over spending, pitches and creative decisions. The Wall Street Journal also reported that a film script was rejected and described tension around the handling of Sheridan’s projects and collaborators. The Los Angeles Times, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that the move was not based on money and that the departure of two creative partners contributed to it, attributing that detail to Puck.

These explanations come from unnamed sources, not a public account from Sheridan. The Los Angeles Times reported that representatives for Sheridan, Paramount and NBCUniversal declined to comment. Accordingly, the reported disputes are context for the deal, not a definitive statement of Sheridan’s personal reasons.
