Tate McRae announced her third album, So Close To What, on November 14, 2024, with a release date of February 21, 2025. The album is now out, and the accompanying 2025 Miss Possessive Tour has concluded.
What is Tate McRae’s third album called?
The album is So Close To What. Sony Music Canada announced it on November 14, 2024, as McRae’s third studio album, to be released through RCA Records. The label described its themes as growing up, self-discovery, love, and trying to find balance amid uncertainty; that is the label’s framing, not a definitive explanation of the title. Sony Music Canada’s announcement also listed exclusive vinyl, signed CDs, cassettes, and limited collectible vinyl variants. Availability of those editions can change.
When did So Close To What come out?
The announced release date was February 21, 2025. RCA Records released the original album with 15 tracks. Sony Music Canada’s release-day announcement named Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Amy Allen, and Julia Michaels among the writers and producers.

What does the album title mean?
The available statements from the label and McRae do not establish a direct explanation of the title So Close To What. Apple Music’s album editorial discusses her perspective on touring and songwriting, but does not present a definitive title meaning. It characterizes the record as pop informed by dance, R&B, and 2000s club music; those are editorial descriptions rather than a formal genre declaration from McRae. In the interview, she said, “Being on tour for a year feels like a million years—you’re like, ‘Holy shit, I have been gone for a lifetime,’” and spoke about the collaborative writing room: “With music and finding perspective on situations, no one quite understands like another girl.” Apple Music’s album editorial provides that context.
Did the album reach No. 1?
TIME reported that So Close To What debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in early March 2025. Its profile also quotes McRae describing her songwriting aim: “I hope to get as close to authentic as humanly possible.” TIME’s profile reports the chart debut.

What was the Miss Possessive Tour?
The Miss Possessive Tour was the concert tour announced alongside the album in November 2024. The initial plan was described by Sony Music Canada as a 50-date world tour, scheduled to begin in Mexico City on March 18, 2025, and finish in Los Angeles on September 26. Benee was announced as support for Europe and UK dates, and Zara Larsson for US and Canada dates. Those details describe the original routing, not the final itinerary.
The tour later expanded: Sony Music Canada described it as an 80-date tour in its February 21, 2025 album-release announcement. In its November 21, 2025 wrap-up announcement, the label said the global arena tour had concluded after more than 80 dates and reported one million tickets sold. These are the label’s promotional figures at the respective points in time. The O2 listed London shows on May 20 and June 24, 2025; its event page identified AXS as the venue’s official ticketing partner and warned that other resale-site purchases might not be valid for entry. That notice applied to the historical O2 events. The initial tour announcement, the February 2025 release announcement, the tour wrap-up, and The O2’s event listing document those details.
