But the posts shared after the film’s July 7 premiere were selected reactions from attendees and critics—not a representative audience poll—and they included reservations as well as a sharply negative review.
What did early viewers praise about Superman?
In a July 8 roundup, TheWrap highlighted reactions that described the film as funny, emotional, action-packed and earnestly comic-book-like. Several posters also praised the cast and the movie’s optimism. These are individual impressions, not proof that every early viewer felt the same way.
- Germain Lussier wrote, “#Superman soars. It’s a non-stop joyride, packed with humor, action, and emotion.”
- Chris Evangelista wrote, “SUPERMAN: Gosh, I absolutely loved this. James Gunn’s feature-length comic book splash page is so unapologetically silly, earnest, and intentionally corny that it utterly charmed me.”
- Eric Goldman wrote, “I loved Superman! James Gunn embraces the earnest, sometimes lovably corny side of comics and their super (ahem) fun concepts in a way that evokes Raimi’s Spider-Man.”
TheWrap’s roundup does not establish professional roles for these posters, so their comments are best read as attributed social-media reactions rather than formal reviews. TheWrap’s July 8 roundup collects the posts.
Were the first Superman reactions all positive?
No. The overall tone of the first wave was favorable, but the roundups also recorded concerns about the plot and storytelling. TheWrap included praise that acknowledged “a few minor issues,” while Variety noted a reaction describing the plot as convoluted. Variety also included critic Peter Howell’s negative judgment that the film was “not the super start to the DC Universe everybody had been hoping for,” citing problems with the storytelling.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That contrast matters: the early posts suggest strong enthusiasm for the film’s tone and performances among many people who shared reactions, alongside disagreement about how well its story works. They do not establish a percentage of positive responses or represent all viewers. Variety’s July 8 roundup includes both praise and dissent.
What film were people reacting to?
The reactions concerned James Gunn’s 2025 Superman, which he wrote and directed. DC lists David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult among the principal cast. TheWrap and Variety published their roundups on July 8, after the July 7 Hollywood premiere and the lifting of the social-media embargo. DC lists July 11, 2025, as the nationwide U.S. theatrical release date and July 9 as the start of international release. DC’s film page provides the credits and release information.

How did later audience measures compare?
Later figures offer a different kind of context and should not be confused with the premiere posts. In its July 13, 2025 report, the Associated Press reported a studio-estimated $122 million opening weekend in the United States and Canada, an A-minus CinemaScore and an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score at that time. Those are dated box-office and audience/aggregation snapshots, not a count or measurement of the earlier social-media reactions. The Associated Press report gives that later context.
