In an April 14, 2019 interview with The Indian Express, Kumararaja described Super Deluxe as having multiple story tracks and said he tends to begin stories at climactic moments. Rather than first explaining a couple’s history and relationship breakdown, he starts with Vaembu calling her former lover, allowing viewers to learn about the characters as the drama develops. Kumararaja also described the film as a tribute to cinema, citing Star Wars and songs by Bappi Lahiri and Ilaiyaraaja as influences. Those are examples he named, not a complete guide to every reference in the film.

Plan for about 176 minutes. Listings vary slightly by source and edition: Apple TV India gives 2 hours 56 minutes, the British Board of Film Classification records a 175-minute-35-second cinema version, and the Directorate of Film Festivals’ 67th National Film Awards catalogue lists 177 minutes. These figures describe the respective catalogue or edition, rather than a single universal runtime.
Is it suitable for children?
Ratings depend on territory and classification system. Apple’s India listing gives the film an A rating and flags language and sexual content. For the UK cinema version, the BBFC lists very strong language and strong sexual threat; its detailed advice describes a police officer blackmailing a woman and threatening sexual coercion. Check the classification for the version available where you live rather than treating one country’s rating as universal.

The 67th National Film Awards catalogue names Super Deluxe for Best Supporting Actor and identifies Vijay Sethupathi as the winner.
