Episode details
“Chapter Four: Will the Wise” is Season 2, Episode 4. It aired on October 27, 2017. Rotten Tomatoes lists the episode title, number, air date, and synopsis; TVmaze lists a 46-minute runtime and credits Paul Dichter as writer and Shawn Levy as director.
What happens to Will?
Joyce believes Will when he describes the visions that have been frightening him. He struggles to explain the experience: some memories feel as though they belong to someone else, and he senses something growing and spreading. He is cold and visibly unwell.
When Joyce asks him to draw what he cannot put into words, Will fills page after page with what first appears to be disconnected scribbling. Joined together, the drawings form a network of vines. Will’s sketches show what he is experiencing, though the episode does not establish that he consciously understands the full map.

How do Will’s visions connect to Hopper’s investigation?
Hopper investigates the damaged pumpkin patches and finds an underground tunnel beneath one of the affected fields. His discovery gives the spreading threat a physical location beneath Hawkins, echoing the vine network in Will’s drawings. The episode connects the two developments, but Hopper’s find is independent evidence rather than proof that Will deliberately led him there.
What does Dustin discover about Dart?
Dustin’s escaped creature has eaten the family cat. When he finds Dart, its changed form has the unmistakable head of a Demogorgon. The reveal makes clear that the creature Dustin had treated as a strange pet is connected to the Upside Down.

Why is the episode called “Will the Wise”?
The title evokes the group’s Dungeons & Dragons world and Will’s place within it. Here, Will’s drawings make him a crucial link to the spreading threat: even when he cannot explain what he is seeing, the images provide a shape for the mystery. The title is a useful thematic echo, not a claim that a particular game edition or set is required to understand the episode.
