1993 or 1994: They reconnect on Pontiac Moon
The couple’s second meeting came through Pontiac Moon. The Knot dates their reunion on the set to 1993, while Biography.com describes the film as a 1994 release and Us Weekly labels their meeting as 1994. The sources do not settle the production date, so 1993 may refer to filming and 1994 to release-year shorthand.
In a 2018 People interview quoted by Biography.com, Steenburgen reflected: “We met when we were 40 and 45, and we had lived a bit.” She added that they met after each had “stared down some demons within ourselves,” and said it was fortunate they met then.

The children and family they brought together
Steenburgen had two children, Lilly and Charlie, with actor Malcolm McDowell. Danson had daughters Kate and Alexis with Casey Coates. Their earlier marriages ended before the wedding: Biography.com dates Steenburgen and McDowell’s marriage to 1978–1990 and Danson and Coates’s to 1977–1993. The sources differ on the starting year of Steenburgen and McDowell’s marriage, so the timeline here focuses on the children and the family they formed together.
