Taylor Swift’s “Wood” points to Travis Kelce most directly in the lyric “New Heights of manhood,” a reference to New Heights, the podcast Kelce co-hosts with his brother Jason. Swift described the track as a sentimental love song built around superstitions and good-luck and bad-luck charms; its recurring “knock on wood” phrase turns that familiar ritual into a playful expression of confidence in love.
What Taylor Swift says “Wood” is about
Swift called “Wood” “a love story” and described it as “a very, very sentimental love song.” In an Amazon Music video, as reported by Us Weekly on October 3, 2025, she explained that she used popular superstitions and good- and bad-luck charms as a plot device, naming knocking on wood and seeing a black cat as examples.

That framing helps make sense of the hook. “Knock on wood” is a way of warding off bad luck after expressing hope or confidence. In the song, the narrator’s repeated return to the phrase plays against her growing assurance about the relationship: rather than treating luck as something she must constantly protect, she suggests she and her partner make their own luck.
Why the lyrics point to Travis Kelce
The clearest specific reference is “New Heights of manhood.” New Heights is the podcast Travis Kelce co-hosts with his brother Jason, making the phrase a pointed nod to Kelce. The reference is supported by reporting from The Associated Press and ELLE.

The line is a strong clue about the song’s subject, but it does not establish that every image in the lyrics refers to a particular event or detail in the couple’s private life. The most careful reading is that Swift uses a recognizable Kelce reference inside a love song whose stated organizing idea is superstition.
How the double meanings work
“Wood” also uses sexual double entendre. Words and images including “wood,” “hard rock,” and “magic wand” can be read as innuendo, adding a cheeky layer to the song’s sentimental premise. That is a reading of the lyrics, not a separate verified statement about the couple’s private life.

Swift has acknowledged the playful turn in the song’s development. ELLE reported that on The Tonight Show on October 7, 2025, she said, “It started out in a very innocent place,” before laughing about how the writing session changed direction. She also said she wanted the song to sound timeless. Her remarks describe the songwriting process; they do not confirm a specific biographical meaning for each suggestive line.
Is the “Redwood tree” another Kelce clue?
It may be, but that connection is less direct than “New Heights.” The Associated Press noted that comedian Bowen Yang joked in 2023 that Swift and Kelce were “the tallest people in the world” and compared seeing them together to being in “the Redwood Forest.” That offers possible context for the song’s “Redwood tree” image, but there is no reported confirmation from Swift that this is what she intended.

Where “Wood” fits on the album
“Wood” appears on Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, released October 3, 2025. Its mix of superstition, romance, innuendo, and a specific podcast reference lets it work as both a playful track and a love song. The Kelce nod is clearest in “New Heights of manhood”; the song’s broader metaphor, by Swift’s account, is the language of luck and superstition.
