Spoilers for the series finale of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The surviving members of Clone Force 99 find safety and a home on Pabu, but the final time jump sends an older Omega away from Hunter toward a new fight. That makes “trading one war for another” a useful interpretation of the ending—not a description the creators have confirmed.

What happens at the end of The Bad Batch?

The finale closes the squad’s immediate struggle to survive the Empire. Hunter and the surviving members of Clone Force 99 are safe on Pabu, a place where they can live together rather than remain soldiers on the run. The series then jumps forward in time: an older Omega says goodbye to Hunter and prepares to leave for a life beyond the island. StarWars.com describes the ending and its epilogue in its series-finale interview.

The show’s starting point gives that quiet homecoming its weight. Lucasfilm’s official series page places the story after the Clone Wars, as the Republic falls and the Empire rises. Clone Force 99 defies Order 66, goes on the run, and takes Omega into its found family. Their arrival on Pabu is a release from that immediate cycle of pursuit and combat—not a restoration of the Republic or a claim that the wider conflict has ended.

Does Omega join the Rebellion?

The final scene establishes that Omega leaves Hunter to pursue a future beyond Pabu. A May 1, 2024 recap by Den of Geek reports that she leaves to join the Rebel Alliance; it also reports that Hemlock’s Necromancer funding is redirected to Project Stardust. Those are plot details reported by the recap, not statements of creator intent. Read alongside the official finale account, Omega’s departure points toward continued resistance, while the series ends before showing her next chapter in detail.

That choice changes what “the war” means for the characters. The squad’s military role and immediate fight for survival have ended, but Omega appears ready to take up a cause beyond the family’s refuge. The contrast is between the security and belonging the others find on Pabu and Omega’s agency to choose a dangerous path of her own.

Is the ending happy or tragic?

It is hopeful for the family without making Omega’s departure painless. The surviving squad is together and safe; Hunter must nevertheless say goodbye as Omega leaves. The finale’s open-endedness allows both parts to stand: the homecoming is a resolution, while the time jump hints at a future that the series does not follow.

That balance reflects the creators’ stated aim. In a StarWars.com interview, head writer Jennifer Corbett explained why the finale did not kill another member of the squad: “I’m sure we talked about it, but I think we wanted the ending to be a bit more hopeful and it didn’t feel right for the story to have one of ’em sort of fall behind.” Brad Rau, supervising director and executive producer, said the team entered the season knowing it was intended to end the series and found it satisfying to conclude the characters’ chapter as planned.

The time jump also serves as a deliberate glimpse beyond the finale. StarWars.com notes that the epilogue follows a Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars storytelling pattern of hinting at characters’ futures. Dee Bradley Baker described this one as “particularly beautiful and affecting.”

Why the title’s “another war” is an interpretation

The phrase captures the tension between two endings: Clone Force 99 can stop living as a military unit, while Omega chooses to move toward continued resistance. But it should not be taken literally as a creator-confirmed summary. In the official interview, Rau calls the conclusion the end of “this chapter with these characters,” and Corbett describes the intended tone as hopeful. The “new war” framing is an interpretation of Omega’s choice, not the stated purpose of the finale.

Lucasfilm’s production page also quotes Hunter saying, “Our mission is not over yet.” The line resonates with the series’ wider conflict, but it does not erase the ending the finale gives the squad: a safe home on Pabu and a future together, even as Omega’s path diverges.
