Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic has no official release date or window in the announcements and reporting cited here. Reports described it as being in very early development, making a wait of years a reasonable expectation—but not a confirmed schedule. Director Casey Hudson was reported to say it would arrive before 2030; that sets a broad expectation, not a specific launch year.
What is confirmed about the game
Arcanaut Studios announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The studio describes it as a narrative-driven, single-player action RPG in which players take the role of a Force user traveling through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. Arcanaut’s announcement calls the game a “spiritual successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
StarWars.com says the game was announced at The Game Awards 2025 and identifies Casey Hudson as its director. The official announcement describes an all-new story. “Spiritual successor” signals a creative lineage; it does not establish that the new game is a direct plot sequel to KOTOR.
Why the game is likely years away
When it covered the announcement, GameSpot described the project as being in a very early stage. That development status supports the inference that release is still a long way off, but it is a dated report—not a current milestone update or a publisher schedule. The sources cited here do not establish how far development has progressed since then.

What “before 2030” does—and doesn’t—mean
GameSpot reported Hudson’s response to rumors that the game would not arrive until 2030: “Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!” The report presents this as a broad expectation from the director, not a formal release announcement. It does not name a launch year, month, or day, so it should not be read as confirmation of a 2029 release.
A PC Gamer guide updated June 17, 2026 likewise reported no release date or window and referenced Hudson’s before-2030 statement. Release details can change; the cited reporting establishes only what was known at those points in time.

What players should watch for next
The official studio and franchise announcements are the best places to look for a confirmed date or window. Until one is published, the practical answer is that the game has no announced schedule in the sources cited here, and “years away” remains an informed inference from early-development reporting.
- There is no confirmed launch date or release window in the cited announcements and reporting.
- Hudson’s reported before-2030 comment is not a specific release-year promise.
- The cited sources do not establish platforms, price, editions, preorder availability, or a current development milestone.
How it relates to Knights of the Old Republic
Arcanaut’s “spiritual successor” description connects the new project to Knights of the Old Republic, but the official description also calls Fate of the Old Republic an all-new story. That is enough to identify a creative connection, not to assume returning characters, a direct continuation, or shared gameplay details. The original KOTOR is a separate, released game—not a way to access the unreleased title.
