The event marked 20 years since George Lucas’s 2005 film, and included a first-for-the-film 4DX presentation. The rerelease has ended; its opening weekend brought an estimated $42.2 million worldwide, according to Disney.
When and where the anniversary screenings took place
Lucasfilm announced the rerelease on February 25, 2025, with screenings beginning April 25. It was scheduled as a one-week engagement in select U.S. theaters and international territories, not a nationwide or worldwide run at every cinema. Lucasfilm’s announcement named AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, B&B, Cinemark, Fandango, Galaxy, Harkins, Marcus, Megaplex, and Regal Showcase in the United States. That list identified announced participants; it was not a complete locator of individual theaters or showtimes.
Showtimes were local and handled through participating theater websites and apps or ticketing services. Because the April 2025 window has passed, those listings no longer indicate current screenings. The announcement also does not establish where or when a future theatrical return might occur.
Formats varied by theater and territory
The rerelease was promoted in several formats, but each venue’s offering depended on its location and participation. Lucasfilm highlighted 4DX as a first for Revenge of the Sith: the format uses motion chairs synchronized with more than 21 effects. That description refers to the 4DX presentation, not to every screening.

In France, Disney said the engagement ran April 25–29, 2025, in about 400 cinemas, with ICE and 4DX options. Those dates, approximate cinema count, and formats apply to France specifically; they should not be read as a schedule for other countries. Disney France’s announcement gives the territory-specific details.
Disney’s estimate of the opening-weekend box office
The Walt Disney Company estimated that the rerelease earned $42.2 million worldwide in its opening weekend in 2025. Disney reported $25.2 million domestically from 2,775 U.S. theaters, which placed the film No. 2 at the domestic box office that weekend. The company estimated $17 million internationally, including select markets such as Germany, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico; Disney said the film opened at No. 1 in Germany.

These are Disney’s opening-weekend estimates, not a final lifetime total for the rerelease. Why the film’s 20th anniversary mattered
Released in 2005, Revenge of the Sith is the final film in the prequel trilogy. George Lucas wrote and directed it. The story follows Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars as fear for Padmé and the political collapse of the Republic draw him toward the dark side, while the Empire rises. Lucasfilm’s official film page describes Anakin’s fateful choice at the center of that transformation.

Lucasfilm commissioned new rerelease poster art by Matt Ferguson. StarWars.com described the design as bringing together Darth Vader’s mask, Anakin, the duel on Mustafar, and Coruscant. Ferguson said: “The space battle and Mustafar elements are all really complicated, with way more ships and explosions than on my other Star Wars posters,” and added, “It’s the movie where it all really unravels for Anakin.”
