What Casey Hudson said about the release date
In a social-media post quoted by Push Square on December 13, 2025, Hudson addressed rumors that the game would not arrive until 2030: “Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!”

That is a broad assurance from the director, not a scheduled release date. It does not confirm a particular year, month, or day, and it should not be read as confirmation of a 2028 or 2029 launch.
Has an official release date been announced?
No specific date appears in the announcement or Arcanaut Studios’ press release. Both describe the project as being in early development. Hudson also told StarWars.com: “We’re still early in development, with many challenges ahead.”

The clearest distinction is therefore between the two statements: no official release date has been announced, while Hudson has said the game will arrive before 2030.
What is Fate of the Old Republic?
Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic on December 12, 2025. It is described as a single-player action RPG with a new story set at the end of the Old Republic, where the player is a Force user. Hudson is the game director, and Arcanaut is developing it in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

The official announcement says the game is in development for PC and consoles, but does not name particular console models or provide separate platform launch dates. Lucasfilm Games’ Douglas Reilly has also said it is not a direct sequel or continuation of Knights of the Old Republic; it is a new story in the tradition of a deep, cinematic, choice-driven RPG.
