Spotify’s U.S. Premium price increase is already in effect. Spotify’s U.S. plan page currently lists Individual at $12.99 per month, Student at $6.99, Duo at $18.99 and Family at $21.99. Your first bill at the new rate depends on your account’s billing date; check Spotify’s email and your account page for the date that applies to you.

Spotify also lists ad-free listening, lossless audio, offline listening and on-demand playback among Premium benefits. The U.S. plan details are on Spotify’s Premium plans page.
When the new price starts for your subscription
Spotify announced the U.S. update on January 15, 2026. It said subscribers would receive emails over the following month explaining what the change meant for their subscriptions. Spotify Support says the new price applies after a one-month grace period, during which subscribers can cancel. Because billing dates differ by account, the announcement date alone does not tell you when your charge changes.

To find your date, open your Spotify account page and check the billing information. Look for Spotify’s price-update email as well: it explains how the change applies to your subscription. Spotify’s instructions are in its Price updates support article.
What to do if you don’t want to pay the new price
You can cancel at any time. To avoid another charge, cancel before the next billing date shown on your account. Spotify says cancellation takes effect before that next billing date.

If you would rather keep a paid subscription, check which plans you are eligible for. Student requires verified student eligibility; Duo and Family are for people who reside at the same address. Those plans are not interchangeable options for everyone.
Spotify also offers a free, ad-supported service. Spotify says saved tracks, playlists and podcasts remain accessible on the free service, though listening is ad-supported. Compare the current plan terms before changing subscriptions.

Can you use a gift card after the price increase?
Spotify Support says gift cards can still be redeemed even if they were bought at a lower price, but they apply only to Premium Individual—not Student, Duo or Family. Check the card’s redemption terms and the current Premium Individual price when deciding whether a card covers the period you expect.

In its January 15, 2026 announcement, Spotify said: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” The statement is Spotify’s explanation for its pricing policy; the announcement did not attribute it to a named executive.
