Spotify’s “Jaisa Mood Waisi Dhun” was its first nationwide marketing campaign in Pakistan. Launched in 2022, it used three television commercials and placements across radio, digital, outdoor advertising, and cricket to show music matching—or changing—the mood of everyday situations.
What did “Jaisa Mood Waisi Dhun” mean?
The title conveys the campaign’s central idea: a tune for the mood you are in. Spotify’s campaign announcement described the work as celebrating the connection between music, listeners’ feelings, and their surroundings. The creative premise was not simply that people listen to music in different settings; in each commercial, a song helps shift the feeling of a scene.

Spotify had launched in Pakistan in February 2021. The campaign announcement called this its first nationwide campaign in the country, while a contemporary Aurora by Dawn account described it as the company’s third campaign there. BBDO Pakistan was Spotify Pakistan’s creative agency, according to Aurora.
What happened in the three television commercials?
Youth and music: “Phir Milenge”
At a ghazal night, a young woman plays “Phir Milenge,” by Faisal Kapadia and Young Stunners, changing the atmosphere around her. The campaign identified Young Stunners as the duo Talha Anjum and Talhah Yunus.

Parents and children: “Peechay Hutt”
A family tussles over the car keys, and “Peechay Hutt”—by Hasan Raheem, Justin Bibis, and Talal Qureshi—lightens the scene. The spot uses a familiar family disagreement to make the campaign’s mood-shifting idea concrete.
Academia: “Har Zulm Tera Yaad Hai” and “Sajni”
A demanding academic setting is paired with “Har Zulm Tera Yaad Hai,” by Sajjad Ali, and “Sajni,” by Strings. The music provides a counterpoint to the pressure of the scene.

Where did the campaign run?
Spotify’s 2022 campaign announcement says the work ran on radio and digital channels, as well as through outdoor placements in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Multan, Hyderabad, and other locations. It also describes a bespoke integration with the Osaka Presents Spotify Cup West Indies Tour of Pakistan.
The announcement does not provide a complete media schedule, campaign spend, audience reach, or measured audience response. The placements show the range of channels Spotify used, but they do not establish how many people saw the campaign or whether it changed listening behavior.

What was the creative rationale?
In Aurora’s 2022 account, BBDO Pakistan managing director and executive creative director Atiya Zaidi explained the idea as giving listeners the choice to pick music for how they feel. The article frames young Pakistanis’ interest in exploration and escape through music as part of the agency’s creative insight. That is the agency’s reported rationale, not independently measured evidence about Pakistani Gen Z or the campaign’s effects.
Spotify Head of Strategy and Operations Ruthie Qadan said, “Music is the language of the heart in Pakistan,” in the campaign announcement. This is campaign commentary, rather than a finding about audience behavior.

What can—and can’t—be concluded about its impact?
The campaign is documented as a nationwide, multi-channel effort with three distinct television stories and a cricket-related integration. The available campaign and industry accounts do not establish independently measured reach, engagement, sales impact, or changes in listening habits. Effie Pakistan lists the campaign title among its 2023 finalists; finalist status confirms recognition as an entry, not campaign results.
The campaign announcement also described Spotify at the time as having more than 82 million songs and 4 billion playlists. Those were figures stated in 2022 and should be understood as period claims, not current catalog or playlist totals.
