No: Steve Carell said in 2024 that he would not star in the new The Office series. The project, now titled The Paper, takes place in the same universe but follows a new cast working at a struggling Midwestern newspaper.
What Steve Carell said about the new series
A June 12, 2024 Variety report said Carell would not star in the new iteration of The Office. In its account of his interview with Jimmy Fallon, Variety quoted Carell saying, “I know that for sure.” That is a statement about his participation as reported in 2024—not confirmation that he could never make a guest appearance in a future episode.

What The Paper is about
Peacock announced the project on May 8, 2024, as a new series in the Dunder Mifflin universe, led creatively by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. The announcement described a new cast and a daily-newspaper setting. Peacock’s cast and series page identifies the title as The Paper and describes its subject as the daily operations of a struggling Midwestern newspaper. The page says the series premiered exclusively on Peacock on September 4, but does not state the year in the cited text.
How The Paper differs from the original
The original The Office follows employees at the Scranton branch of the paper company Dunder Mifflin. The Paper stays in that fictional universe but shifts the workplace to a newspaper and centers a new cast. Peacock’s catalog page lists Carell among the original show’s cast and identifies the series as nine seasons and 203 episodes.
